Bluboo S1 - almost rimless smartphone

The Bluboo S1 is already the 4 almost-borderless smartphone we're reporting on. To what extent the smartphone differs from the other devices of this type, as well as a first assessment of the Bluboo S1 you can find attached!

Bluboo S1

Design

Judging by the rendered images alone, the Bluboo S1 hardly differs from the recently released one DOOGEE MIX, You could even almost think that the smartphone of both companies is just an OEM product, which has only a different branding. The front of the smartphone is built like all previously published almost-borderless smartphones. The 5.5 inch display is surrounded by comparatively wide margins (see GearBest Teardown Video!). Below is typically a wide body section that provides space for the Home button and front camera. The housing is completely made of plastic. The smartphone is available in white or black.

Display

In contrast to DOOGEE MIX Bluboo also uses a 5.5 inch display, but this dissolves in Full HD and is of the IPS type. Bluboo himself speaks of a screen-to-body ratio of 90%. This value is of course completely unrealistic. With a little math an actual screen-to-body value of 14.80% can be calculated based on the housing dimensions of 7.40 x 0.80 x 5.5 cm and the display diagonal of 76 inches. The display is supposedly protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

Processor and memory

Almost all of the tri-bezel-less smartphones from the low budget segment that have been announced so far and some of them are available have the MediaTek Helio P25 installed as a system-on-chip. This octa-core processor, manufactured using the 16nm process, currently leads MediaTek's mid-range P processors and proves to be comparatively energy efficient. A total of 8 Cortex-A53 cores clock at a maximum of 4 x 2.5 GHz and 4 x 1.6 GHz. The memory of the Bluboo S1 is 4GB LDPDDR3 RAM and 64GB eMMC5.1 flash memory. Memory expansion using an SD memory card is possible.

Cameras

On the back, the Bluboo S1 is equipped with a dual-sensor main camera. The main sensor has a native resolution of 13 megapixels and achieves an interpolated value of 16 megapixels. An additional 3 megapixel image sensor ensures improved depth perception, which can create the so-called “bokeh effect”. What is in the foreground appears particularly sharp, whereas what is in the background that is not in focus becomes blurred. How the main camera performs compared to the competition remains to be seen. The “DSLR quality” promised by Bluboo will definitely not be achieved. The front camera of the smartphone has a resolution of 5 megapixels.

Connectivity and battery

The Bluboo S1 supports all common 2G, 3G and 4G frequencies or bands and can therefore be used without restrictions in Germany. The supported WiFi protocols are 802.11a / b / g / n. Bluetooth is available in version 4.0. The sensory equipment consists of an ambient light sensor, a magnetometer, a gravity sensor, a proximity sensor and a gyroscope. A fingerprint scanner is also integrated into the home button on the front. The smartphone already has Android 7.0 as the operating system. The battery has a capacity of 3.500 mAh and is therefore slightly larger than the battery of the DOOGEE MIX.

Bluboo S1 review

Conclusion

Almost every small producer of China smartphones currently wants a smartphone based on the concept of a smartphone Xiaomi Mi Mix launch. However, the devices that have appeared so far are less convincing. Unsightly bezels and poorly optimized software are almost the norm. At first glance, the Bluboo S1 sits alongside these devices, so you shouldn't have too high expectations of the smartphone! One can only hope that the manufacturers' run on cheap tri-bezel-less smartphones will soon come to an end.
