Cube MIX Plus

ALLDOCUBE Mix Plus - China tablet with Core M3-7Y30

At the end of August 2016, Intel announced the 7th processor generation "Kaby Lake". In December, the ALLDOCUBE Mix Plus, one of the first China tablets with an Intel Core M3-7Y30 processor, was released, which is also traded as the successor to the Cube i7 Book. You can find out in this article whether the new ALLDOCUBE tablet lives up to the success of its predecessor.

Full speed ahead with the Core M3-7Y30

The heart of the ALLDOCUBE Mix Plus is the new Intel Core M3-7Y30 processor, which has a basic clock rate of 1.0GHz and a full 2.6GHz in turbo. In direct comparison to the Core M3-6Y30, which was released in 2015 and in the Cube i7 Book Is used, the newer Kaby Lake processor also uses 14nm processor technology, but offers a higher clock rate both in the basic clock and in the turbo. The Core M3-7Y30 is 100 MHz faster in the basic clock, and even 400 MHz faster in Turbo. There are also some changes in the processor graphics. Probably the biggest improvement is the H.265 / HEVC and VP9 decoding on the hardware level. The processor graphics also receive minimal additional performance through slightly increased clock rates. Of course, Intel has also worked on the efficiency of the 7th generation of processors and has increased it slightly.

Nothing new on the display

Like its predecessor, the ALLDOCUBE Mix Plus uses a full HD IPS display with a diagonal of 10.6 inches. In 2017, a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with an aspect ratio of 16: 9 no longer seems up-to-date, but you should consider that a UHD display also comes at the expense of performance. Precise work with a system is also possible. The tablet is compatible with WACOM stylus for this purpose. ALLDOCUBE presumably uses the identical Samsung display that was used on the predecessor as well as on the Microsoft Surface 2 Pro.

From the store to the camera

The memory of the ALLDOCUBE Mix Plus amounts to 4GB RAM (LPDDR3-1866) and a 128GB M.2 SSD as internal memory. If the 128GB internal memory is too small for you, you can expand it using a micro SD memory card. There is no expansion option with another M.2 SSD, but the SSD can be exchanged. The main memory is not exchangeable!

The tablet's front camera has a resolution of 2 megapixels. The main camera achieves a maximum resolution of 5 megapixels and also offers auto focus. These are again probably the same image sensors that were already used in the previous model. An outstanding photo and video quality is not to be expected. At least both cameras should be suitable for video telephony.

Cube MIX Plus Review

Same design, different color

The housing of the ALLDOCUBE Mix Plus is very reminiscent of the housing of the Cube i7 Book. Except for the color, nothing has changed. Instead of a metallic blue, the new ALLDOCUBE tablet now appears in a brushed aluminum look. The connection options are still a USB Type-C socket, a Micro-USB 3.0 socket, a 3.5mm headphone connection and a 12V DC socket. If you want to connect the tablet to another screen, you can connect it to the USB Type-C socket with a suitable adapter. The arrangement of the two speakers on the right side of the case is also unchanged.

Other

The tablet is equipped with a dual-band WiFi module from Intel for wireless data transmission. Bluetooth 4.0 is also available for wireless transmission. The capacity of the battery is 4.300mAh. The battery can be charged either via the 12V DC socket or via the USB Type-C socket. OTG is supported. A G-sensor is available.

Conclusion

High-quality and powerful China tablets with Windows 10 as the operating system are mostly in vain. These tablets often rely on a conventional Intel Atom processor and are not particularly convincing in terms of performance. ALLDOCUBE is one of the few Chinese manufacturers who rely on the Intel Skylake and now also Kaby-Lake micro-architecture. With the Intel Core M3-7Y30 processor, the MIX Plus is an interesting upgrade compared to its predecessor, but some design changes and a larger RAM would have been desirable. The price of the ALLDOCUBE Mix Plus is around € 360 and is therefore only slightly more expensive than its predecessor.

Looks nice. I'm looking forward to the performance of the processor. A bigger RAM would have been better, but 4GB is enough too. Will you test it soon?

Whether I will test it, I do not know yet. If yes, then of course the review follows at this point! I suspect the processor will be about 20% faster.
