Update 10. January 2018

It took a full 30 days for the new Roborock vacuum robot to finally arrive. I've been testing the Roborock S50 for about a week now. In the first part of the video test series, we take a closer look at the scope of delivery and the structure of the vacuum robot. This is followed by a first interim conclusion. The second part of the review, which of course contains more details on the suction and wiping performance, the sensors and the app functions, appears as soon as the Roborock Sweep One has been thoroughly tested for all functions. You can find more information on this page.

(Xiaomi) Roborock S50 / Sweep One Robot Vacuum Cleaner | Test / Review - Part 1 | (German - German)

If you don't want to watch a video, here are my positive, first impressions in quick succession:

  • Excellent workmanship
  • Compact charging station
  • First-class suction power
  • Very good room recognition
  • Various suction levels and carpet detection
  • High battery life
  • Precise return-to-home
  • Easy to empty container

Of course, the Roborock S50 is not perfect either. Here are my negative first impressions of the vacuum robot:

  • Wiping performance not convincing
  • Does not stop in front of carpets with docked water tank
  • Reflecting surfaces cause problems for the lateral sensors
  • App is still in need of improvement

The Xiaomi vacuum robot in 2. Generation?

Just looking at the design of the Roborock Sweep One one could think that it is a successor to the first  Xiaomi Suction Robot  acts. In fact, it is a crowdfunding-financed vacuum robot that is not produced and sold directly by Xiaomi, but by Roborock. If you take a look at the official Mi website, you won't find any information about the Roborock Sweep One there despite its recent publication.

The similarity of both models comes from the fact that Roborock already has the Xiaomi suction robot produced, but this was marketed by Xiaomi itself. This approach by Xiaomi is not uncommon, the electronics giant has already in the past produce products from various producers and only provided with the Mi logo. With the Roborock Sweep One, you get a product without the Mi logo, which, however, is based on the quality standards of the original Xiaomi robotic vacuum cleaner.

product size

New design and higher suction power

Well, that much hasn't changed in the design. The vacuum robot is still round and continues to have a typical white housing with an orange accent. It is noticeable that the Ragefinder on the top of the device has moved towards the middle and the robot vacuum is now equipped with 3 newly arranged control buttons.

The extensive sensor system is also available, including a 360 ° laser sensor or range finder, several infrared and ultrasonic sensors, a gyroscope, an e-compass and an acceleration sensor.

The suction power has also increased. The suction capacity of the first Xiaomi Suction Robot was still at 1800 Pa. The Roborock Sweep One is 2000 Pa. At the same time, the capacity of the removable dust container has been increased. This now holds 0.48 liters, i.e. 0.6 liters more than the original Xiaomi suction robot. Carpet edges should no longer be fatal either. Here the threshold or rise height has increased to 2 cm (compared to 1.5 cm).

wiping function

An extensive innovation is the wet wiping function of the Roborock Sweep One. For this purpose, the robot hoover is delivered with a small water container including a microfiber wipe. Attached to the underside, the Roborock vacuum robot can vacuum and wipe wet at the same time. The wiping time with one tank filling can be 45 to 60 minutes. For easy cleaning, both the tank and the wiping cloth can be separated from the robot vacuum cleaner.

Smaller charging station, same app

What stands out is the significantly smaller charging station of the Roborock Sweep One. This gives you more leeway when placing the station, but at the same time the robot vacuum cleaner has to navigate to the charging station more precisely. However, initial test reports from China report that the Sweep One's autonomous navigation is extremely accurate and that the device with the "Return to Home" function is similar to the older one Xiaomi suction robot in no way inferior.

The battery capacity is 5200 mAh and is sufficient for a runtime of 2 1/2 hours, which is roughly equivalent to cleaning a 250 m² apartment. What is surprising is that app control is still carried out via the “Mi Home” app, even though the Roborock vacuum robot is not actually a Xiaomi product. However, there are no innovations regarding the app. The app can be used, among other things, to configure schedules, you can control the robot vacuum cleaner manually and have the room plan created by the sensors graphically displayed.

 2. Does the Roborock S50 have a CE mark?

If you choose the international model of the Roborock S50, it has a CE mark. Furthermore, the International model is supplied with a European power cord and multilingual operating instructions. There are no hardware differences to the Chinese Roborock.

 3. Can I also control the vacuum robot without an app?

You can also operate the vacuum robot without an app. There are three control buttons on the top of the teat. However, to be able to use all functions, especially to create room and time schedules and make settings, you need the Android or iOS app. These can be conveniently downloaded for free in the respective App Store.

 4. Is the suction robot Smart Home compatible?

Yes! You can connect the vacuum robot with the Google Assistant, Alexa and the Apple Homekit.

 Google Assistant

You need the Google Home app to control it. You can add a new service within the app. Search for the “Mi Home” service and select it. You will then be asked to log in with your Mi Home data. Once a connection is established, you can assign the robot vacuum cleaner to different rooms. You can then control the Roborock robot vacuum cleaner using your voice command.

 Alexa

Download the “Roborock Home” skill and link your Mi account. You can then switch the robot vacuum on and off using your voice command.

 Apple home kit

To integrate Homekit you need the Homebridge plugin “miio”. The robot vacuum cleaner is integrated as a fan and allows it to be switched on and off remotely and to control the suction power. The user also receives information about the battery level and the sensors.

What's the difference between the International and Upgraded versions?

Hi, the difference will be that an English manual will be included instead of a Chinese manual.

“China costs about 2499 yuan for the device, which is roughly € 318. A release date is not yet known, "

What is it just to wait, unless you pay sometimes over 100 € too much for any ominous Preorder so that the device may eventually be delivered (you know from Gearbest of about all other Preorder actions)

Hello techreviewer, has your review device already arrived? I ordered at GearBest on the 09.11 and my Roborock was shipped on the 15.11. I have a tracking number for Hermes, which I can track. Since mid-November, however, is there that the Saugi has not yet arrived in the distribution center? How long does it take? The must at Christmas namely under the tree!

Ours has come today and experienced the same when sending, obviously people are just ripping around the robot vacuum cleaner. And I have to say, except for a few problems installing the app, I'm very happy.
Important! When the app necessarily specify China Mainland with Europe, etc., it does not work.

      Hi Mephisto, Hi easyfly,
our test copy has also been on the road since 14.11. Also sent by GearBest. Currently, just about every order from China has a crude maturity. It's not just GearBest that's affected by it, but really all shipments from China, no matter which shipping service provider. I suppose your Roborock Sweep One and our test copy will arrive this week, at the beginning of next week at the latest. Orders sent between the 09.11-13.11 have already been delivered or will be delivered the next few days. For the weekend then the orders should be after the 13.11's turn.

Hello, I just don't look through all these names anymore. I want to buy the Roborock vacuum robot. Now I read something about Roborock S50 here and there, then Roborock Sweep One, then again Xiaomi vacuum robot 2nd generation ... I just want to buy the successor to the first Xiaomi vacuum robot and nothing wrong. Now which is the right one?

    • Timo admin

      30. December 2017 18 to: 25

Hi Heribert, I have to agree with you that the terms have become quite confusing. Roborock Sweep One / Roborock S50 are both the same model. The Roborock S55 would be something different, but there is no information about it yet. Many sites advertise the vacuum robot with the XIaomi addition, as Roborock produced the first Xiaomi vacuum robot, among other things. Hence the similarity. So if you also find the Saugi as "Xiaomi VAC 2nd Generation", it should be the new one from Roborock. Visually, you can also see the difference from the offset laser tower and the other control buttons. I hope I could help you with your question.

Great review, but I still have some questions that you can hopefully help me with!
    1. Does the Roborock drive over carpets, even if you have the mop on it and does it also suck at the same time?
    2. Is there a way to change the battery?
    3. Are the Xiaomi robotic parts compatible with the Roborock?
    4. Is the app Chinese or English?

    Thanks and LG

    • Timo admin

      5. January 2018 14 to: 04

Hi Benjamin, of course I can answer your questions.
      1. Yes, unfortunately carpets are not avoided with docked water tank.
      2. With the first model, it was possible with knowledge to swap the battery. I guess the structure has hardly changed, so I assume that it will be possible with the new Roborock.
      3. Many spare parts are compatible. See brushes etc.
      4. The app is in both Chinese and English. You can put the voice prompts in English.

    27. October 2018 17 to: 24

Hello, I have heard in a video that the Rovorock S50 drives back to its station after a long tour and recharges, but then does not start again to clean more not yet cleaned surfaces. Is that really the case or is it not true? Or. was it really that way and has been fixed by means of an update now?

    Thank you very much
