ACTON Electric Skateboard - Xiaomi Youpin

The California-based electric skateboard manufacturer ACTON has been in business for a long time, which is why it is all the more surprising that a new ACTON e-skateboard has just appeared on Xiaomi's crowdfunding platform "Youpin". More on this in the following article.

Important NOTE

Youpin is a Chinese sales and crowdfunding platform from Xiaomi. Many of the products published there are mistakenly advertised on the web with the Xiaomi add-on. The ACTON skateboard has also appeared in many shops and even technology portals under the name “Xiaomi ACTON”. In fact, ACTON is an independent company with locations in California (USA) and China. The e-skateboard sold in China under the name ACTON X1 is only temporarily financed and sold on Youpin!

Durable deck

Before we turn our attention to the electric drive, let's first take a look at the deck. With a deck length of 70 cm and a weight of just 5 kg, the ACTON electric skateboard is comparatively compact. The deck is made of Canadian maple (7 layers) and reinforced with aluminum alloy ("aircraft aluminum"). The top of the deck has a stylish grip tape. A green arrow indicates the direction of travel.

On the underside of the deck there is not only the battery pack, but also an LED underbody lighting. This makes a lot of things optically and ensures more driving safety in the dark. A total of 4 LED strips illuminate the sides, the front and the rear. The lighting can be switched on and off as required using the ACTON app. The maximum load capacity of the skateboard is 100 kg.

Electric drive, battery pack and water protection

The ACTON skateboard is powered by a rear “hub motor” axle. This is a combination of rollers with a hub motor. The power of the rear wheel drive is 500 watts. ACTON states the maximum speed as 22 km/h. Comparatively little when you consider that some e-skateboards/longboards travel at up to 40 km/h. However, the ACTON skateboard is also significantly more compact. The electric skateboard can handle gradients of up to 15%.

The battery pack located under the deck consists of 10 Samsung 18650 Li-Ion batteries (36V - 80Wh). One battery charge is sufficient for a range of around 12 km. The skateboard can be charged in just 90 minutes. A battery management system (BMS) protects the accumulator against overvoltage, overcurrent and overheating.

The manufacturer's specifications do not reveal the extent to which the board is splash-proof. At least the previously released models Blink S and Blink S2 are splash-proof, but it is not recommended to ride the board in heavy rain.

Operation and App

The control takes place with the help of a handy remote control. Control lever forward and the skateboard accelerates, control lever backwards to brake. The information provided by the manufacturer does not reveal whether energy is recovered when braking (recuperation). The visually similar ACTON Blink S and S2, which is sold in the USA, is capable of recuperation.

What shouldn't be missing from a smart skateboard is app control. The ACTON app provides information about the battery level and the remaining range, as well as the driving time and the distance covered. If you are looking for a challenge, you can connect with other users and compete against them in challenges.

First impression

The ACTON electric skateboard (not Xiaomi ACTON) published on Youpin is a very interesting means of transportation. The board, which is traded in China under the model name ACTON X1, surprises at first glance with its compact construction and an extremely appealing design. How it works in practice remains to be seen. We have already ordered a test copy for a detailed test. At the moment the board is still on pre-sale. Delivery is only expected from mid-August.

Incidentally, interested buyers should note that the ACTON e-skateboard as well as the previously tested by us  Xiaomi M365 Scooter  has no road approval in Germany and may not be used in public transport! However, you can drive the board on road traffic-free areas, especially on private property.

Hello, what's the difference from the Xiaomi Acton to this one?

Hello Erangel, as already mentioned in the post above, there is no Xiaomi Acton skateboard. What is referred to as Xiaomi Acton by many shops and “tech bloggers” is a product from the manufacturer Acton that has only appeared on the Youpin sales platform. It has absolutely nothing to do with Xiaomi. So don't be fooled by the Xiaomi babble!
