On October 25, 2016, Xiaomi introduced the “Xiaomi Mi Note 2”. The smartphone will be released in a total of 3 versions and, in addition to a 5.7 inch curved OLED display, also offers extremely impressive hardware. You can find out what can be expected from the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and what our first impression is in this preview!

First impression of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2

The new Xiaomi smartphone will be released in 3 versions. The models differ in terms of the size of the RAM, the internal storage, but also the LTE bands used. The smallest model costs 2799 RMB (€380) in China and has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The middle model is equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and will cost 3299 RMB (€447). The 3rd model appears as a “Global” edition. The equipment is comparable to the medium version, but has been expanded to include all LTE bands. The price of this model is 3499 RMB (474€). There are also two choices when it comes to color. All models appear in the colors “Piano Black” and “Glacier Silver”.

Display

All 3 models have a 5.7 inch OLED display in a curved design. “Curved design” refers to a bezel-less smartphone in which the display edges are rounded towards the housing frame and the display and housing frame almost go hand in hand. A comparable smartphone would be the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. There is no further information about the resolution of the display yet. Leaks in the past few weeks have suggested a QHD resolution (2560 x 1440), while individual voices within the MIUI community only speak of a Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080). What is known, however, is that the ratio of the display to the front of the housing should be 77.2%, 110% of the NTSC color space is covered and the contrast ratio is 100.000:1. Thanks to the “Sunlight Display Pro” technology, the display should be easy to read even in direct sunlight.

Performance

Inside, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor clocks. The maximum clock rate of the 64-bit quad-core processor is 2.35 GHz. The processor graphics is an Adreno 530 GPU. With Qualcomms, currently the most powerful processor, you are damn fast on the go. Multitasking and graphically demanding games will not be a problem for the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. The main memory is either 4GB or 6GB (LPDDR4 RAM). The internal memory is 64GB or 128GB (UFS 2.0) depending on the model. Unfortunately, the internal memory cannot be expanded using an SD memory card.

Camera

Xiaomi relies on a single 22.56 megapixel main camera and an 8 megapixel front camera. The rumors that a dual camera system will be used have therefore not come true. The main camera uses a Sony IMX318 image sensor, which records, among other things, 4K videos at 30 frames per second. Electronic image stabilization (EIS) with a 3-axis gyroscope is available and can also be used to stabilize 4K video recordings. Furthermore, the main camera comes with an autofocus (PDAF), a dual LED flash and an f / 2.0 aperture.

The image sensor of the front camera is a Sony IMX268 with an f/2.0 aperture. The front camera is also equipped with autofocus. The "Beautify 3.0" mode creates even more beautiful selfies.

HiFi sound, NFC and fingerprint scanner

The Qualcomm AQSTIC chip also comes with the Snapdragon 821 SoC. This ensures a balanced HiFi sound with 192kHz / 24bit decoding. NFC is supported. In addition to a write and read function, NFC cards can also be emulated. A fingerprint scanner is located in the front home button.

Connectivity and battery

A specially integrated GPS chipset ensures even more precise positioning. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 also supports Bluetooth 4.2 and dual band WiFi. The "Global" version of the new Xiaomi high-end smartphone is compatible with a total of 37 LTE bands and can therefore be used worldwide. A dual SIM function (2x Nano SIM) is available, but LTE is only supported on one slot.

Xiaomi specifies the capacity of the battery as 4.070mAh. Equipped with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, the battery is fully charged in a very short time.

Update (26.10.2016/2/XNUMX): The first videos for the new Xiaomi smartphone have appeared on YouTube. Here is an interesting hands-on for the Xiaomi Mi Note XNUMX (@FoneArena)
