vivo V21 5G - smartphone with 44MP front camera comes to Europe

vivo brings a V-Series smartphone to Europe for the first time! It starts with the vivo V21 5G, which has a real highlight for vloggers and selfie lovers with its 44 megapixel front camera including optical image stabilization and dual LED light.

Update 21. June 2021

After the vivo V21 5G was recently announced for France and Austria, the selfie smartphone will soon also be available in Germany.

The smartphone will be available from the beginning of July at Media Markt, Saturn, Sparhandy.de, DeinHandy.de, Otto, Cyberport and Euronics at a recommended retail price of 399 euros.

44MP front camera with OIS and LED

The front camera is mostly neglected by many smartphone manufacturers. In times of TikTok, Snapchat and co. However, the front camera is also playing an increasingly important role.

The vivo V21 5G could be a real surprise hit for all selfie enthusiasts. With its 44MP front camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and dual LED light, it sets a new milestone in the field of selfie photography and videography.

The videos recorded in up to 4K are particularly smooth thanks to the optical image stabilization. Perfect for vloggers who don't need shaky footage.

In order to be able to set the scene perfectly even in poor lighting conditions, vivo has placed two LED spots to the left and right of the front camera. Depending on requirements, these act as an LED flash or continuous light. But even without LED light, vivo promises impressive image quality in the dark thanks to the combination of ISOCELL Plus 2G technology and AI night mode.

64MP triple main camera with OIS

Not only the front camera, but also the rear camera equipment is impressive. The main camera of the triple camera setup is a 64MP quad Bayer sensor with f / 1.79 aperture.

With what is known as pixel binning, four square pixels are combined into one large pixel. This reduces the resolution to 16MP, but conversely ensures higher sensitivity, which in turn reduces the noise component and increases the dynamic range. Like the front camera, the main camera is also equipped with optical image stabilization that compensates for movements and thus increases the photo and video quality.

The other two cameras are divided into an 8MP ultra wide angle camera with 120 ° wide angle and a 2MP macro camera.

90 Hz AMOLED display

The AMOLED standard with 90 Hz refresh rate, which is now predominant in the upper middle class, has been chosen for the display. The display diagonal is 6,44 inches with high-resolution 2400 x 1080 pixels (409 PPI).

MediaTek Dimensity 800U with 5G

The hardware basis is the 8-core MediaTek Dimensity 800U chip in combination with ample 8GB RAM and fast 128GB UFS2.2 data storage (expandable with microSD). Experience has shown that the chip is up to everyday tasks and achieves smooth frame rates even in current mobile games.

Future-proof 5G cellular communications are made possible by a 5G NR Sub-6 GHz modem. Furthermore, the vivo V21 offers 5G NFC for contactless payments with Google Pay, Dual-AC WiFi (2.4GHz & 5GHz) and Bluetooth 5.1. On the software side, you can look forward to the latest Android 11 (FuntouchOS 11.1).

4000 mAh battery with 33W FlashCharge

The only thing left to look at is the battery, which promises decent runtimes with 4000 mAh. Fast charging is realized by vivo's 33W FlashCharge technology. This means that the battery can be charged to 30 percent in just 63 minutes.

assessment

vivo is known for innovative ideas and concepts. Good examples are the vivo Apex, a concept smartphone with an in-screen camera or that  vivo X51 5G , which revolutionized the main camera for the first time with mechanical gimbal stabilization.

In the middle class segment, vivo has so far held back a little. The mid-range models released in Europe I live Y20s and in vivo Y70 are not bad smartphones, but the devices lack that certain something that sets them apart from the strong competition in the mid-range segment.

That could look completely different with the vivo V21 5G. With the 44 megapixel front camera including OIS, vivo is now also setting new standards in the middle class.

Note: So far, the smartphone has only appeared on the French vivo website. Accordingly, it should be available from June 18 for 419 euros. Vivo has not yet announced whether and when the smartphone will also be available in Germany.
