OnePlus 6T

The OnePlus 6T, which has leaked frequently in the past few days, was officially presented. The sale starts on November 06th. The smartphone is available in the colors Mirror Black and Midnight Black, as well as in 3 different memory variants. In terms of price, the model with 6 + 128GB is € 549, the model with 8 + 128GB is € 579 and the top model with 8 + 256GB is € 629.

Here you can buy the OnePlus 6T.

Drop Notch and In-Display Fingerprint Scanner

In terms of design, OnePlus largely sticks to the look of the OnePlus 6. The back is made of hardened Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is characterized by a high level of scratch and breakage resistance. The OnePlus 6T withstands external influences just like the previous full-metal models.

The fingerprint scanner on the back, which was located under the main camera of the predecessor, has disappeared. Instead, the OnePlus 6T uses a fingerprint scanner integrated into the display glass. This is not only completely invisible, but also promises a high recognition rate with a short unlocking time. The much more compact notch is also new. Instead of a wide bar, they opted for a simple tropical design that is discreetly around the front camera. OnePlus has placed the receiver inconspicuously between the display edge and the housing frame.

OnePlus 6T - Unlock The Speed

With the release of the OnePlus 6T, OnePlus has finally said goodbye to the 3.5 mm audio jack. However, this does not make the smartphone waterproof! The two different color variants ensure a visual finish. The “Mirror Black” color introduced with the OnePlus 6 gives the smartphone a glossy look that is visually and tactilely reminiscent of ceramic. The well-known “Midnight Black” gives the smartphone a predominantly subtle look thanks to its matt black surface.

Huge 6.41 inch display

The display is of the AMOLED type and has a diagonal of 6.41 inches with 2280 x 1080 pixels. The sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces are fully supported. Due to the 19.5: 9 image format, the smartphone is slightly narrower (74.8 mm), but also slightly longer (157.5 mm) than its predecessor. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. Gimmicks such as an adaptive brightness mode or a special reading and night mode are of course on board.

OnePlus 6T technical data

And every day the Snapdragon 845 greets you

The high-end system-on-chip “Snapdragon 845” from Qualcomm is installed. A total of 8 Kryo 385 processor cores, which clock at up to 2.8 GHz, give the smartphone a lot of steam. Compared to last year's SoC, the Snapdragon 835, the Snapdragon 845 works approximately 30% faster. Despite the additional performance, Qualcomm has optimized the energy efficiency by another 10%. The processor graphics of the SoC is the Adreno 630 GPU, which offers enough performance to play current mobile and AR games smoothly.

To ensure that hardware and software harmonize with each other as best as possible, OnePlus has once again optimized the so-called “OxygenOS”, which is based on Android 9. In order not to slow down the processor unnecessarily, invisible background processes are regulated, among other things.

OnePlus 6T gaming

In addition to a fast processor, a high-performance memory connection is also crucial. OnePlus relies on an LPDDR4X RAM and a UFS 2.1 2-lane data memory. The size of the working and data memory differs depending on the model variant. Regardless of which model you choose, the lavish and fast memory configuration ensures smooth multitasking. A memory expansion using a microSD memory card is not provided.

Camera with OIS, slow-motion and video editor

The sensors of the OnePlus 6T camera are identical to those of the previous model. Both sensors come from Sony. The main sensor is a 16 megapixel Sony IMX 519 with a 1.22 µm pixel size and an f/1.7 aperture. Optical and electronic image stabilization not only stabilizes video recordings, but also photo recordings, making better recordings possible at night. The so-called “bokeh effect” (image capture with depth effect) is made possible by the secondary 20 megapixel Sony IMX 376K sensor with 1.0 µm pixel size and f/1.7 aperture.

Despite the “old” sensors, OnePlus promises improved recording quality. New is the night mode, which uses software editing to prevent artifacts and highlight details. The "Studio Lighting" mode is comparable to Apple's "Portrait Lighting" and applies special exposure effects to the recording.

The smartphone records videos in 4K at up to 60 frames per second. The "Super Slow Motion" shows movement sequences slowed down at up to 480 frames per second (720p). The front camera is a 16 megapixel Sony IMX 371 sensor with fixed focus, f/2.0 aperture and electronic image stabilization.

Connectivity and others

Like the previous models, the OnePlus 6T is also a smartphone with global cellular support (37 different bands). Dual SIM use is possible and both slots are LTE-capable. The 4x4 MIMO standard is supported so that you can also be on the move quickly with WLAN. Bluetooth is available in version 5. Precise navigation is implemented using the GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo satellite systems. NFC is available.

Last but not least, let's talk about the battery. This has a capacity of 3700 mAh. The battery can be charged quickly thanks to a 5V 4A quick charge function. The charging socket is of the USB-C type. A Qi charging function is also not available on the OnePlus 6T. Pity!

Oneplus was an advocate of the jack socket. You don't have to understand that they have now decided against it. And still no contactless charging ... it doesn't really knock me off my feet.

No one needs it anyway. Adapter ran and finished. Can you continue to use your 3.5mm headphones? I think these are really good steps the OnePlus is taking. Same camera but improved software. That's the way it should be. Who needs a new camera on every phone, which is not really well optimized. I really like the design with the little notch as well. Missing QI charging function, well you do not really need it.
