11,5 inch HONOR FullView display
At the heart of the HONOR Pad X9 is the new 11,5-inch HONOR FullView Display that promises users an immersive visual experience. In comparison, the predecessor, the HONOR Pad X8, had a much smaller 10,1-inch display.
With a resolution of 2.000 x 1.200 pixels, support for 1,07 billion colors and 100 percent sRGB color space coverage, the display enables natural color reproduction and detailed representations.
Despite using a traditional LCD panel instead of an OLED panel, the HONOR Pad X9's display offers a solid presentation. While the contrast may not quite reach the level of an OLED, the tablet still delivers more than sufficient quality for video playback and movies. It is therefore ideally suited for a cozy evening on the couch.
The HONOR Pad X9 collects plus points with its 120 Hertz refresh rate, which means that content is displayed particularly smoothly.
Immersive sound through six speakers
HONOR promises not only an impressive visual display, but also a convincing audio performance. I didn't have a chance to convince myself of the sound during the event in Paris, but the tablet is equipped with a total of six speakers. Two speakers are on the left, two on the right and two on the bottom of the case frame. Regardless of the viewer's position, these speakers are designed to deliver immersive 360° stereo sound.
HONOR would like to create the corresponding cinema feeling with an increased volume and bass spectrum.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 and Android 13
In terms of technical features, the HONOR Pad X9 offers a respectable 4GB of RAM and 128GB of data storage for apps, games and multimedia content. The tablet is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 4G processor. Despite the 4G mark in the processor's name, only a WiFi version of the tablet is currently available.
The 6nm chip came onto the market in 2020 and is already a few years old. However, its performance should still be sufficient for most apps and games today. At least the user interface reacted reasonably smoothly in hands-on mode. A 7.250 mAh battery supplies the tablet with power.
The current MagicOS 7.1 based on Android 13 is used as the user interface. To what extent the HONOR Pad X9 will receive a version upgrade to Android 14 or even Android 15 is not yet known. Parents benefit from Google's Kids Space and the Family Link app on this tablet, with which the usage behavior of the children can be controlled.
Flat aluminum body
HONOR has packed the hardware into an aluminum housing that is only 6,9 millimeters thick and weighs 495 grams. In the hands-on, the tablet was surprisingly light in the hands, so that it doesn't become too heavy in the long run and can be seen as an ideal companion for on the go.
Due to the screen-to-housing ratio of 86 percent, the display edges are pleasantly narrow. Considering the price, there is nothing wrong with the build quality.
