HONOR Magic V2: release date and price are official!

The HONOR Magic V2 will be available in stores from January 26, 2024 at a price of 1.999 euros - HONOR has now announced this. We already had the opportunity to get our hands on the smartphone at last year's IFA to get a first impression of it.

HONOR Magic V2: News about the release

Last year, HONOR impressively presented us with the foldable HONOR Magic V2 smartphone. Folded just 9,9 millimeters thick, it is the thinnest and lightest foldable smartphone to date and is therefore barely thicker than a normal smartphone.

Impressively thin: the HONOR Magic V2 on the left, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra on the right.

After its debut in China in July 2023, the portfolio was expanded to include the HONOR Magic Vs2, a more affordable variant positioned alongside the Magic V2. Most recently, the HONOR Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design was presented in China, which uses the same hardware but is more sleek in terms of design.

Traditionally, it takes a few months for such innovations to leave the Chinese market. The uncertainty surrounding the European release of the Magic V2, which still existed at the IFA in September 2023, has now been clarified: The HONOR Magic V2 will be available in Europe from January 26, 2024 for 1.999 euros.

The following launch offers will be available at the start of sales:

  •  Free display replacement within the first 12 months
  •  0% financing for up to 24 months
  • Matching 66 W charger for just 1 euro
  • Additional free case in carbon look
  •  Free HONOR Watch 4 during the promotional period from January 26th to February 29th, 2024

assessment

With this price, HONOR once again makes its positioning in the premium segment clear. Especially in comparison to competing products like the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5, which is available for under 1.200 euros, although not quite as thin and light as the Magic V2.

The “smartphone sandwich” closes seamlessly.

You also have to take into account that the Magic V2 is still based on the Snapdragon 2022 Gen 8, which was released at the end of 2. Although the mobile platform still offers plenty of performance, this year's flagship smartphones will already rely on the new and more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Whether the release of the HONOR Magic V2 comes at the right time remains to be seen.

The interior display shows a barely visible display crease.

My personal impressions of the Magic V2, which I was able to gather at the last IFA, are mostly positive. Even with a short period of use, the high-quality workmanship and impressive lightness of the device were noticeable. The smooth folding mechanism in particular demonstrated this very well.

HONOR's camera technology is placed in the triple module.

I'm definitely looking forward to the release and if we receive a test device soon, a detailed test of the HONOR Magic V2 will of course follow.

I also saw it at the Ifa. Fantastic smartphone, but at €2000 it stops for me. Let's wait and see how long Honor keeps the price, or whether they don't go down after all. At 1500 € I get soft ;)…

You will probably have to be prepared for these prices. I can still remember when Apple went over €1000 for the first time and many people were upset about the price. There are now hardly any flagships under €1000 anymore. There is no upper limit and manufacturers can do whatever they want. It will still be bought.
