Honor 9
Update (June 27, 2017): The Honor 9 was presented today in Berlin for the international market. The equipment is of course no different from the Honor 2, which was presented in China 9 weeks ago. The retail price in Germany is € 429. However, one should note that this is the model with 4GB + 64GB. The variant with 6GB RAM is only intended for the Chinese market! Buyers will also receive a € 11 cashback until July 2017, 30.
Design and display
The Honor 9 is an upgrade to the Honor 8 and an approach to the Huawei P10. The differences in design are only minor. The colored glass back is retained and curves towards the metal frame. Where the fingerprint scanner was on the back of the Honor 8, it has moved to the front of the new model. The design here in particular brings back memories of the Huawei P10, which was only introduced at the beginning of the year. The display with a diagonal of 5.15 inches has a resolution of full HD - i.e. 1920 x 1080 pixels. The panel is of type LTPS.
Processor and memory
There is another upgrade to the processor. The in-house HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC is installed, which has a total of 8 processor cores. According to the big.LITTLE architecture, processor cores are divided into 4 powerful Cortex A73 cores (2.4 GHz) and 4 energy-saving Cortex A53 cores (1.8 GHz). The processor can be classified alongside other flagship SoCs such as the Snapdragon 821 or the Exynos 8890. The Kirin 960 cuts a good figure, especially in terms of pure CPU performance, and with the Mali-G71 processor graphics, the SoC is also suitable for more demanding ones Mobile games. The system is supported by a 6GB or 4GB RAM - depending on which equipment you choose. The internal memory measures 128GB or 64GB and can also be expanded with a Micro SD memory card. However, if you want to expand the memory, you have to forego the dual SIM function because of the hybrid slot!
Dual camera
The main camera is a so-called dual camera, which consists of an RGB color sensor and a monochrome image sensor. As with the Huawei P10, the sensors have a resolution of 12 or 20 megapixels and both use an f / 2.2 aperture. In contrast to the Huawei P10, the Honor 9 does not have Leica branding. Furthermore, the dual camera offers a hybrid autofocus consisting of a PDAF, laser AF and contrast AF, a dual LED flash and software-based image enhancements such as the hybrid zoom. The main camera records videos with maximum 4K resolution. The front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and uses an f / 2.0 aperture.
Hi-Fi audio, IR sensor and more!
Also worth mentioning is the built-in hi-fi audio chip, which teases out the best possible sound from the Honor 9. In contrast to many other manufacturers, Honor does not do without the 3.5 mm audio jack, although the smartphone can be connected via USB-C. The device also supports dual-band AC WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and GPS. An interesting feature is a small IR sensor, which can be used to control a television, for example. Honor specifies the capacity of the built-in battery at 3.200 mAh.
Prices and availability
Before the smartphone is presented to us at the end of June, it will first appear in China. There are 4 color variations to choose from - Sea Blue, Amber Gold, Black and Seagull Gray, as well as 3 storage options - 6GB + 64GB (€354) - 6GB + 128GB (€394) - 4GB + 64GB (€302).
