Vernee Mars Pro - mid-range smartphone

The “Vernee Mars Pro” is the successor to the “Vernee Mars” mid-range smartphone that was released at the end of 2016. We'll take a closer look at what innovations the smartphone brings with it in this article!

Vernee Mars Pro

Vernee is a comparatively young smartphone maker, in addition to the low budget ments Thor Models and the high-end ments Apollo Series, only introduced a middle class since the end of 2016 with the so-called Vernee Mars series. The Vernee Mars Pro is the second mid-range smartphone in this series, which outwardly hardly has any innovations compared to its predecessor, but has significantly improved hardware under the hood.

Design and display

The housing of the Vernee Mars Pro is made entirely of metal and is just 0.76 cm thick. The dimensions are 15.10 x 7.40 x 0.76 cm and a weight of a light 161g. The rounded housing edges and the so-called 2.5D curved glass ensure a more attractive look and at the same time provide a better feel. According to Vernee, the outer display edge (bezel) is just 1 mm. The display is manufactured by “Japan Dislay Inc.” (JDI) and is a so-called in-cell display with Touch and Display Driver Integration (TDDI). Such a display is characterized above all by a thinner panel, lower production costs and better performance. The display has a diagonal of 5.5 inches in full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels). The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Processor and memory

MediaTek's mid-range SoC "Helio P25" is installed as the system-on-chip. A total of 2 clusters, each consisting of 4 ARM-A53 cores, ensure sufficiently fast and energy-efficient work. The memory equipment is a 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and a 64GB eMMC5.1 flash memory. Vernee promises better multitasking performance, especially thanks to the large and quickly connected RAM. The internal memory can also be expanded using a Micro SD memory card. Because of the so-called “hybrid slot”, memory expansion is only possible at the expense of the dual SIM function.

Camera

In contrast to most of the smartphones that are currently being released, the Vernee Mars Pro does not use a dual camera as the main camera, but a conventional single camera. The image sensor amounts to a 13 megapixel Sony IMX258 image sensor, which was already installed in the predecessor and is also installed in numerous other China smartphones, such as the Xiaomi Redmi 4 models. With the Vernee Mars, the main camera was less convincing, although the sensor has some potential. Whether the manufacturer has adapted the main camera of the Vernee Mars Pro better in terms of software remains to be seen. The main camera is supported by a dual-tone LED flash and a phase detection autofocus (PDAF). The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels. Again, there are probably no differences to the predecessor.

fingerprint sensor

The placement of the fingerprint sensor is particularly interesting. This is usually either on the back of a smartphone or below the display. As with the Vernee Mars, the manufacturer has also placed the fingerprint sensor on the side of the housing frame for the Mars Pro. As a result, the contact surface is of course much smaller, but the predecessor already showed that the unusual placement of the fingerprint sensor does not result in any disadvantage in terms of the recognition rate. Vernee also promises unlocking times of less than 0.1 seconds, 360 ° recognition and the sensor's ability to learn.

Connectivity and battery

The Vernee Mars Pro is a dual-SIM smartphone and supports all 2G, 3G and 4G frequency bands common in this country. Single-band WiFi with the 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 protocols are available. The sensory equipment includes an ambient light sensor, an e-compass, a gravity sensor, a gyroscope, a Hall sensor and an acceleration sensor. The physical connection options are a USB-C socket and a 3.5 mm audio port. The battery has a capacity of 3500 mAh. On the software side, the smartphone already runs Android 7.0 with an adapted “VOS” user interface.
