The beyerdynamic gaming manufactory

The beyerdynamic MMX 300 is a top-class headset, which is why you can customize the look of the headset in the so-called "Gaming Manufactory" from beyerdynamic. The basic model can be individually designed with regard to the housing, the suspension, the ear pads, the headband, the headphone fork and the aluminum ring, but also in some cases with regard to the materials. For example, if you don't like velor ear pads, you can also choose synthetic leather pads. If you don't like the carbon design of the case, you can choose a soft-touch case or one with a piano lacquer look.

The different, color design options of the aluminum fork and the aluminum ring are interesting. A total of 8 colors are available, which can also differ between fork and ring. If you want to personalize your MMX 300, you can opt for an additional engraving of the headphone fork for a small extra charge.

The choice of impedance is just as important. The beyerdynamic MMX 300 is available in both the 32 ohm and the 600 ohm version. However, you should only opt for the 600 ohm version if you have a compatible DAC (digital-analog converter) or headphone amplifier with DAC. Because of the high level of efficiency, the 600 ohm version of the headphones can even be driven by a good onboard sound (except for dynamic drops and clipping).

First impression - beyerdynamic MMX 300

The beyerdynamic MMX 300 is delivered in a comfortable carrying case, which is ideal for transporting the gaming headset. An instruction manual and a gold-plated 6.35mm jack audio adapter were also included.

The 2.5m long audio cable has a decent diameter, but is still very flexible. The cable is divided into a gold-plated 3.5mm jack audio plug and a gold-plated 3.5mm microphone plug. The 6.35mm audio adapter can be screwed on as required.

The headphones themselves are superbly made. The aluminum fork and the aluminum ring look fantastic and go perfectly with the white plastic housing. The size of the bracket is adjustable and the directional information (L and R) can be found on both sides for orientation of the headphones. It is noteworthy that these were also printed in Braille. The headphone hanger is padded with synthetic leather. This padding can be removed and exchanged using individual push buttons. The circumaural auricles are very softly padded inside and also very well processed.

Klang

As already noted, the headset is based on the DT770 headphones, which also come from beyerdynamic. The frequency range is 5 to 30.000 Hz. According to the packaging, the sound pressure level is 116 dB, the ambient noise attenuation is around 18 dB.

After three weeks of intensive use, the beyerdynamic MMX 300 convinced me in all areas of application. With the appropriate hardware and playback material, playing music with this hi-fi headset is just fantastic. The sound can be described as very clear and detailed, making vocals particularly clear and clean. The fineness of the headset gives a beautiful "in the middle" feeling.

Even those who like to hear a bit louder music and demand a certain dynamic comes at its expense. The bass area I would call very pronounced. Especially the deep basses are very beautiful. Wherever you want a crisp bass, the headphones can deliver.

With a gaming headset you don't just want to listen to music, you also want to "gamble"! No other game than the famous "Counter-Strike" is better suited for testing such a HiFi headset. In a game in which you have to perceive the smallest noises both as a pro gamer and as a normal consumer, you need appropriately good hardware.

After just a few games of Counter-Strike, the beyerdynamic MMX 300 convinced me. The spatial sound is transmitted very well. The smallest noises can be located perfectly. The clarity of the voice transmission is also important. I was able to clearly understand my teammates both through Teamspeak and through the “In-Game Voice”.

Microphone

The microphone used is a condenser microphone with a frequency range of 30 to 18.000 Hz and a maximum sound pressure level of 120 dB. Speech is received very cleanly and clearly. Ambient noise is filtered very well. The microphone can also be tilted and can be folded up if you don't need it. The microphone can be perfectly adjusted thanks to the flexible arm.

comfort

The wearing comfort is first class. Even after wearing it for a long time, the headset did not become uncomfortable. The circumaural and easily movable velor ear cushions fit perfectly on the ears. Due to the low weight of 380 grams and the inner padding, you can hardly feel the headset. The bracket is also comfortably padded and adjustable in size.
