DeePoon E2 is the name of this VR headset, which is already available for an affordable € 300. This VR headset can be compared with an Oculus Rift DK2.

Update3: The next video is now online. In this video I show you how to install the glasses correctly. Unfortunately, you can do a lot of things wrong during installation if you don't follow the correct order. After a short test with the game "ADR1FT" I can already confirm that E2 comes very close to the Oculus DK2.

Overview of the DeePoon E2

The DeePoon E2 Virtual Reality 3D glasses are full-fledged HMD (Head Mounted Display) with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and a refresh rate of 75Hz. The DeePoon E2 uses a Samsung AMOLED panel for the panel. The field of view of the E2 (FOV) is an impressive 120 °. The input lag is less than a millisecond. 360 ° head tracking is also supported by this VR headset, but motion tracking was dispensed with. The physical connections of the glasses have an HDMI 1.4b and a mini USB 2.0 connection.

What is interesting is that the DeePoon E2 is compatible with the Oculus DK2 drivers. The device is recognized as DK2 or as DK1 without any modification. SteamVR should therefore also be possible with these glasses. This is nothing more than a slightly improved clone of the Oculus DK2. This means that games compatible with the DK2 can also be played using the DeePoon E2 VR glasses. There are also compatible 3D software and games for download in DeePoon's own "app store" called "3D BoBo". A separate SDK is also available on the manufacturer's website.

DeePoon E2 vs. Oculus Rift DK2

There are currently no test reports / reviews of the DeePoon E2 3D VR glasses. A first experience report in an English-speaking forum, however, suggests that this VR headset comes very close to an Oculus DK2.

So I am more than skeptical of the Chinese manufacturers. There is no review in English yet, so from the US or UK, certainly not from Germany. In the case of a return to China in the event of a warranty claim or simple disagreement means the savings there probably not really expected. In addition, the customs could still strike (right it is!). Well, and I have already tested a DK2 extensively, which has not yet been the yellow of the egg. I think wait or take the OSVR (Razer). German shop, probably limited warranty but, the thing is expandable, you should even be able to upgrade the display when higher resolutions are available. In addition, there is more and more Namhefte manufacturer (Acer) with it.

I agree with you. Customs will probably not be charged if you count the device to the game consoles or smartphones or tablets. With the EUSt you are still just 150 € under a used DK2. But you should just keep in mind that you will hardly get support with the Deepoon E2 and the device does not support positional tracking, unlike the DK2.

Nevertheless, China-PR could be quite interesting this year, as manufacturers hardly invest in marketing and the devices can therefore be sold at a fraction of the price of the known sizes. China smartphones have shown the way and VR will follow suit. The recently introduced Pico Neo VR glasses have an interesting approach with two OLED panels (1080 × 1200 pixels) per eye. Xiaomi only registered a VR account a few days ago. You can expect a lot, but currently you should be patient;).
