Huawei Mate X
Foldable OLED display
Not only Samsung has ventured into a smartphone-tablet hybrid, but Huawei has also presented a foldable handheld, which is completely surprising. The Huawei Mate X has a flexible OLED display with a mechanical wing joint. When folded, the Mate X already has a front diagonal of a full 6.6 inches (2.480 x 1.148 pixels). The back of the handheld is still 6.38 inches (2.480 x 892 pixels). The frame is responsible for the slightly smaller diagonal.
When folded out, the mobile device unfolds into an 8-inch tablet. The resolution is up to 2.480 x 2.200 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 8: 7.1, which makes the unfolded Mate X appear downright square. To ensure that the display is really flat, Huawei has developed the so-called Falcon Wing joint. When unfolded, the joint clicks into place and provides more stability. Huawei has not yet given any information about the durability of the kink. Judging by first experiences, there are minor bumps when folding, which affects the display slightly! When unfolded, the Mate X is only 5,4 mm thick. When folded, the handheld grows to a whopping 11 mm.
Triple Camera
The Mate X is equipped with 3 cameras (Leica). More details about the sensors and aperture are not yet known. There is no front camera. However, this is not required either, because the dual display means that the main camera can be used for both conventional recordings and selfies. When folded, the Mate X shows a viewfinder on both sides so that the motifs can also contribute to the photo shoot.
5G mobile and others
Not only fast in design, but also fast on the move. The system-on-chip used is the powerful Kirin 980. Huawei provides this with the Balong 5000 5G modem, which also comes from its own development. According to Huawei, this modem works twice as fast as the competition from Samsung and Qualcomm. The handheld can be switched on innovatively using a smart fingerprint power button in the joint.
The battery has a capacity of 4500 mAh. A new fast charging standard charges the smartphone-tablet hybrids with up to 55 watts. After only 30 minutes on the new SuperCharger, the battery should be charged by 85%. In turn, AI energy-saving technology ensures long-lasting battery life.
Price and availability
The Huawei Mate X should appear in the middle of 2019. The price should be 2.300 €!
