Design and display

Anyone who has already looked around for an inexpensive tablet from China has certainly stumbled upon the Chinese manufacturer “Teclast”. Teclast is one of the better-known tablet and notebook manufacturers, whose mobile devices usually attract with decent hardware at a low price. The Teclast T20 is the successor to last year's Teclast M10 Master. The casing of the 239 × 166.9 × 7.5 mm and 550g tablet is mostly made of metal. Due to the so-called unibody design, the case frame and the back of the case are not assembled, but are made in one piece.

The tablet is equipped with a 13 megapixel camera on the front and back. The main camera is surrounded by a narrow plastic recess behind which the tablet's antennas run. An easy-to-reach fingerprint scanner is located on the right side of the back of the case. The connection options amount to a USB-C socket for charging and data transfer as well as a 3.5 mm headphone socket. A dual SIM slot is available. The audio is played via two loudspeakers, on the left and right of the housing frame. A microphone for video telephony is located above the housing frame.

Technical details

The display has a diagonal of 10.1 inches with 2560 x 1600 pixels. The IPS panel is manufactured by Sharp. Manufactured using full lamination technology, the display and touchscreen form a unit. The advantages of such an OGS display are better contrast, stronger colors and higher luminosity. Teclast is silent about the protective glass used. It is known, however, that a special coating should repel fingerprints and dirt. The touchscreen recognizes a maximum of 10 simultaneous inputs.

Processor and memory

The system-on-chip forms a MediaTek Helio X27. This is a slightly higher clocked Helio X20 processor, among others in the last one we tested  Chuwi Hi9 Air  was used. A total of 10 processor cores are divided into 3 clusters. Two of the cores form the high-performance cluster (2x Cortex A72 - 2.6 GHz), four more the performance cluster (4x Cortex A53 - 2.0 GHz) and another four the power-saving cluster (4x Cortex A53 - 1.6 GHz).

The Mali-T880 MP4 GPU clocks at up to 875 MHz. When choosing the memory, Teclast opted for a 4GB LPDDR3 main memory and a 64GB eMMC5.1 data memory. A memory expansion using a microSD memory card is possible with up to 256GB. The operating system is Android 7.1, which is based on stock Android.

Connectivity, battery and others

The tablet is equipped with a hybrid SIM slot that can be equipped with either two SIM cards or one SIM and a microSD memory card. 2G, 3G and 4G cellular networks are supported. The LTE bands 7 and 20, which are common in Germany, are not available, so that only LTE band 3 can be used! Here is an overview of the frequencies and bands:

  • GSM 900 / 1900 MHz
  • WCDMA: 2100 (B1)
  • TD-SCDMA: B34 / B39
  • LTE: 2100 (B1) / 1800 (B3) / 2600 (B38) / 1900 (B39) / 2300 (B40) / 2500 (B41) MHz

Thanks to the dual-band AC WiFi, the tablet is quickly connected to WiFi. Bluetooth is available in version 4.0. Navigating is also possible with the tablet. The position is determined by GPS, GLONASS and Beidou. The stereo speakers are driven by an AW8736 amplifier so that one can enjoy one or the other film directly on the tablet. The 13 megapixel camera sensors placed on the front and back come from Samsung and allow not only video telephony but also one or two snapshots.

The battery has a capacity of 8100 mAh. According to Teclast, one battery charge is enough for 8 hours of video playback. The battery is charged via USB-C. With the support of MediaTek's Power Express quick charge function, the battery can be charged within a very short time.
