DOOGEE S60 Outdoor Smartphone Test

DOOGEE S60 - All information about the outdoor smartphone

With the DOOGEE S60, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer "DOOGEE" is releasing its first real outdoor smartphone. Above all, the smartphone should score with its robust design and at the same time decent hardware equipment. All information about smartphones for real men can be found in this article.

DOOGEE S60

The DOOGEE S60 is a so-called “rugged phone” from China. Anyone looking for a robust outdoor smartphone in this country will usually be disappointed. On the one hand, outdoor smartphones serve a niche, which is why there are hardly any devices on the local market, but at the same time the few devices offer a miserable price/performance ratio. However, many Chinese smartphone manufacturers now offer a considerable range of outdoor-capable smartphones that can withstand a lot and at the same time are equipped with the latest hardware.

DOOGEE S60 Technical Data

Design

Focused solely on the design, the DOOGEE S60 is a typical outdoor smartphone. The massive housing consists of a combination of plastic and metal. The edges of the housing in particular are protected by a solid plastic jacket that is arranged in a polygonal manner. In accordance with protection class IP68, the smartphone is completely dustproof and even protected against submersion. The MicroUSB socket and the 3.5 mm audio output are protected by rubber covers. The smartphone has a total of 3 physical control buttons on each side of the frame. These are the typical power button and two volume buttons, but also an SOS button, a PTT button and a quick start button for the camera. The case dimensions are 164 x 81 x 15.5 mm with a weight of 285 g. The smartphone is available in black, gold and silver.

Display

The display of the DOOGEE S60 has a diagonal of 5.2 inches. The resolution of the IPS panel is 1920 x 1080 pixels, which means that an extremely high point density of 424 PPI is achieved. The touchscreen supports multi-touch with a maximum of 5 simultaneous inputs. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the display from scratches. A dirt-repellent coating on the display ensures that hardly any fingerprints are left on the display.

Processor and memory

The core is a MediaTek Helio P25 system-on-chip. This makes the DOOGEE S60 one of the most powerful outdoor smartphones currently on the market. The Helio P25 consists of a total of 8 Cortex-A53 processor cores. These are in turn divided into 2 clusters with 4 cores each, clocking at up to 2.5 GHz and 1.4 GHz. This enables high performance with simultaneous energy efficiency. The memory equipment is also impressive. The memory is divided into a 6GB LPDDR4X main memory and a 64GB eMMC memory. Additional memory expansion using a microSD memory card is possible.

DOOGEE S60 Review

Camera, battery and others

The rear main camera uses a 21 megapixel Sony IMX230 image sensor. The aperture indicates DOOGEE with F2.0. It is extremely interesting that the main camera has optical image stabilization (OIS), which stabilizes video and image recordings as well as possible. Further features of the main camera are a PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and a two-color LED flash. According to initial test reports, the main camera only records videos in 1080p, although the Helio P25's image processor supports 4K video recording. However, it is possible that DOOGEE will implement a higher resolution with future software updates. The front camera uses an unspecified 8 megapixel image sensor with an F.2.2 aperture and an 87 ° wide angle.

DOOGEE S60 review

The battery capacity is generous at 5580 mAh. In combination with Android 7 and the quite economical Helio P25, a perfectly acceptable battery life should be achievable. To reduce loading times, MediaTek's "Pump Express" fast charging function is supported. At the same time, the smartphone can be charged wirelessly via NFC. The DOOGEE S60 can easily navigate the German mobile network and supports all 2G, 3G and also 4G frequency bands. In terms of sensors, the smartphone is equipped with a proximity sensor, an acceleration sensor, a gyroscope, a brightness sensor, an e-compass, but also interesting sensors such as a heart rate sensor, a barometer, a pedometer or a voltmeter. As already mentioned, NFC is present. GPS and GLONASS are supported for navigation. A circular fingerprint scanner for securely unlocking the smartphone is located on the back.

Price, availability and assessment

Based purely on the technical features, the DOOGEE S60 promises to be an outdoor smartphone with the hardware of a traditional midrange smartphone. Especially interesting is the sensory equipment, which leaves nothing to be desired. With Android 7 the DOOGEE outdoor smartphone is also equipped with a current Android. The extent to which the device receives an update to Android 8, will have to show. As soon as a test copy reaches us, the detailed test of the DOOGEE S60 follows!

Hello, the smartphone does not support short-range radio. The voice transmission can only be done over the mobile network or WiFi.
