Yuneec Breeze - 4K selfie drone with app control

Updated by Timo Altmeyer on the 22. September 2024

The drone market is growing and keeps surprising us with new ideas. So-called selfie drones are all the rage in 2016 and not only bring beginner-friendly flying fun, but also enable high-resolution photo and video recordings. The Yuneec Breeze is one such selfie drone that we took a closer look at in this article.

4K video recording with this little quadrocopter?

The Yuneec Breeze is not the first selfie drone to be released this year. We reported on the in July ZEROTECH Dobby, one of the first drones for selfies. The Yuneec Breeze is also a compact quadrocopter that is equipped with a high-resolution camera. 4K video recordings are no problem for the 13 / 1 CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 3.06 megapixels. Pictures are recorded with a maximum resolution of 4160 x 3120 pixels in JPEG format. Electronic image stabilization ensures that clean images are created. The drone's maximum field of view is 117 °. The camera can be tilted by 90 °. Recordings can be saved directly to the internal 16GB flash memory.

 Small, but oh!

With a size of only 196 x 196 x 65 mm (327 x 327 x 65 mm with propeller protection), the Yuneec Breeze is one of the more compact drones with a high-resolution 4K camera. The whole point of a selfie drone is to take it with you wherever you go. No matter where you are, the drone should be ready to fly to capture spontaneous recordings. With a weight of only 385g, the Breeze does not represent too much of a load. The 3S 11,1 V 1150 mAh LiPo battery ensures a maximum flight time of 12 minutes.

 Easy app control

The Yuneec Breeze is controlled with a smartphone or tablet. To do this, the drone sets up its own WiFi, which you can connect to using the “Breeze Cam” app. This app is available for both Android devices in the Google PlayStore and for iOS devices in the Apple AppStore. On the one hand, the app is used for control and live image transmission, on the other hand, recordings can be shared on social media, the flight mode can be changed and other settings can be made. The live image is transmitted at a maximum of 720p (or 480p for 4K).

Flying, but safe!

The Yuneec Breeze's features are based on professional camera drones. To make the flight uncomplicated even for beginners, the drone can be operated almost fully automatically. The drone orientates itself using GPS and can automatically maintain its position and find its way back to the starting point. Additional “Optical Flow” sensors form the “IPS” (Indoor Positioning System). This means the Breeze can also be flown indoors in a collision-safe manner. According to Yuneec, the drone automatically maintains its position as soon as you lose control or voluntarily give up. If the battery level is low (5% battery), the quadrocopter also flies back to its starting point. The maximum flight altitude is limited to 80 meters. The flight speed is also limited by software to 5 m/s (1 m/s ascent speed).

 Fun with different flight modes

In order to cover all shooting options, the Yuneec Breeze has different flight modes. In normal "Pilot Mode", the selfie drone is controlled manually using two virtual sticks or by tilting the smartphone or tablet. In “Selfie Mode” the Breeze doesn’t even need to be controlled. Distance and height are easily set in the app. In “orbit mode” the quadrocopter orbits an object or person. In “Journey Mode” the drone moves away and then returns to the pilot. Finally, there is “Follow Mode” in which the drone follows the pilot every step of the way.

The Yuneec Breeze bears little in the direct comparison to other selfie drones, however, it can be assumed that the experienced manufacturer Yuneec has brought an uncomplicated selfie drone on the market, which requires no flight experience and is very easy to use.
