JJRC H31 - Waterproof Drone

 Really waterproof?

Waterproof drones are usually in a much higher price range, which already results from a separate design. At first glance, it is therefore more than unlikely that the JJRC H31 should actually be protected against submersion. However, there are already several test reports and videos online showing that the JJRC H31 quadrocopter can survive several minutes' immersion and remains fully airworthy. The circuit board in the drone housing is covered with a thick layer of adhesive. However, the motors are exposed, and they do not have any special protection against water.

 Design and flight modes

Weighing just 73g, the 29 x 29 x 9cm JJRC H31 drone is extremely light and even allows you to carry an additional camera. There are several green and red LEDs on the underside of the housing, which ensure that the direction of flight is visible and the quadrocopter cuts a good figure even at night. The maximum flight range is 70-80 meters and is completely sufficient for beginners. The maximum speed of the quadrocopter can be adjusted using three different flight modes. Beginners (50% and 75%) but also experienced flyers (100% performance) get their money's worth. There is also a “Headless Mode” (the orientation of the drone does not matter), a “Return to Home” function and a “3D Flip Mode”. Calibration is done using the included remote control.

 Battery and flight time

The capacity of the battery is stated as 400mAh. This means that the JJRC H31 drone achieves a maximum flight time of around 6-7 minutes. It is important to mention that the battery compartment is not protected from water! Especially with LiPos, which are very often used in model making, there is a risk of fire even with the slightest incorrect charge. Intentional submersion should be avoided at all costs. In various test reports, the short transmission range was also criticized and that in the event of a water landing, the drone does not float on the water, but sinks, thereby endangering the motors and the battery.

Waterproof or not, who lands on the water? For a slightly larger quadcopter a pretty good price.
