Elephone ELE Explorer Pro - UHD 4K Action Cam

 Update: There is news about the ELE Explorer Pro. The cam has now been available for a few weeks and was able to convince in test reports. There are isolated 4K recordings on YouTube that present a clean and sharp picture. However, it is questionable whether the manufacturer actually used a SONY IMX117 image sensor. According to research, this image sensor is not compatible with the Novatek processor. Assumptions suggest that the Action Cam is very similar to the current SOOCOO C30, which uses a SONY IMX078 and also has similar functions. As soon as we receive our copy, the test of the Elephone ELE Explorer Pro will of course appear on this page.

Information about the Elephone ELE Explorer Pro

In addition to the well-known Elephone smartphones, the Chinese manufacturer of the same name "Elephone" has also been selling action cameras since the end of 2015. After the relatively inexpensive Explorer Cam, which even achieved a 4K resolution (only with 15 FPS), the successor, the "Elephone Explorer Pro 2016K Action Cam", was announced at the beginning of February 4.

Like the predecessor model, which performed well in test reports, the ELE Explorer Pro should also be 4K-capable and achieve an impressive 24 images per second. Of course, the camera can also handle resolutions of 2K (@ 30), 1080p (@ 60 @ 30) and less. The Action Cam shoots photos with up to 12 megapixels. WiFi is of course also on board, so that you can control the camera via an Android or iOS app.

The Elephone ELE Explorer Pro has not only changed externally, the manufacturer has also gone a step further in terms of hardware and has installed a high-quality SONY IMX117 image sensor. The previous model still used an OmniVision OV4689, which can be found in most of the Chinese action cams. A lot has also changed with the image processor, which is why they switched from an Allwinner V3 to the well-known Novatek 96660. We'll see what this combination brings in the coming reviews. Comparable models are also quite new and hardly available.

Other functions include support for 64GB memory cards, an electronic gyroscope, which is supposed to ensure clean movements, and voice activation. Here, too, it remains to be seen how the functions have been implemented. The Action Cam's battery is 1050mAh, the TFT display is 2 inches.

On the data sheet, the Elephone Explorer Pro 4K leaves an impression that is almost too good. At around € 117, the successor model is also significantly more expensive than its predecessor. The Elephone ELE Explorer Pro 2016K should appear in March 4. The presale in the more popular shops has already started.
