The Huawei Mate Xs (2020)

At the last press conference, which was called "Together, Connecting Possibilites", the new flagship of the Chinese company was presented. Packed with the latest technology, it tells its competitors, like the Galaxy Fold or the Galaxy z flipto fight.

With the new “Falcon Wing” design and a new processor, Huawei promises an innovative and intuitive switch between smartphone and tablet.HUAWEI Mate

the display

The folding mechanism is intended to offer customers a 20,32 cm (8 inch) display with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels when opened. The smartphone should serve as a tablet in this format.

When folded, the Mate Xs offers a 16,76 cm (6,6 inch) screen on the front and a 16,21 cm (6,38 inch) screen on the back. The entire screen should be installed in a very thin frame.

The Huawei Mate XS is delivered with a protective glass.

For the screen, two displays are put together with a transparent adhesive. A special polymer structure is used to hold the displays together. Due to the choice of materials, the entire screen should receive excellent image quality, brightness and color saturation.

The folding process is carried out using the "Falcon Wing" hinge. The specially developed hinge is said to consist of over 100 parts, which were manufactured on a zirconium basis. Huawei expects this to make the smartphone more durable and easier to fold.

The inner life in numbers

The Huawei Mate Xs works with an 8 GB Mali G76 GPU with 16 cores. The foldable smartphone will have 512 GB of internal memory on board, which can be expanded with a Huawei NM card.

The processor inside the case is the Kirin 990 5G. This should also have a 5G modem. The processor consists of an octa-core CPU, each with two compact and two larger Cortex A76 cores. Furthermore, four smaller Cortex-A55 cores work, which clock with up to 2,86 GHz.

In Huawei's novelty, a 4.500 mAh battery will be launched, which can be quickly charged with 55 watts. According to the manufacturer, the Huawei Mate Xs should then be able to charge from 30% to 0% within 85 minutes.

The camera

4 cameras are housed vertically in the HUAWEU Mate Xs. The 4x camera from Leica has a 40 MP main camera (wide angle f / 1,8), 16 MP ultra wide angle (f / 2,2), 8 MP telephoto lens (f / 1,8) and a 3D depth sensor camera. Photos can be zoomed in with a 30x hybrid zoom.

Huawei expects the folding technology of the smartphone to have a special advantage, especially for selfies. By folding the smartphone, all 4 cameras become front cameras, which then serve as selfie cameras.

In the case of portraits, the folded display can show the picture on both halves. This allows the subject and photographer * to see the picture.

HUAWEI Mate XS

The operating system

The Huawei Mate Xs runs on the EMUI 10.0.1 surface, which runs on the Android operating system. The specialty is that the top smartphone comes with a revised Huawei AppGallery, which is the official Huawei app store. The specially developed app store is to be expanded every day and apps are specially tailored to the individual devices. Unfortunately, you won't find any apps that were developed by Google on the new device.

When opened, apps are run in parallel via a multi-window. This means that files, images and documents can be moved back and forth in applications using Drap and Drop.

We remain excited...

It remains to be seen whether the new smartphone, with plenty of new technology, will be a blockbuster or store keeper, because Huawei is calling a proud 2.499 euros for its new horse in the stable and will be available from mid-March.
