Design

Externally, you can hardly distinguish between all the smartwatches in the “X5” model series. The uniform housing is made of 316L stainless steel alloy and is CNC milled from one piece. The watch is optionally available in shiny silver, but also in black. The watch strap is made of synthetic leather and is closed with a pin buckle. Due to the antennas running inside the bracelet, the watch strap cannot be changed. The smartwatch is not waterproof! 

Display

The circular display is of the OLED type. The display resolution is 400 x 400 pixels with a display diagonal of 1.39 inches. The display is therefore identical to its direct predecessor, the "Finow X5 Plus". The point density achieved is 286 PPI. In contrast to conventional LCD panels, OLED panels do not require a backlight. Each individual pixel lights up on its own and can be switched off if necessary, which results in a particularly rich black value. There is another advantage also lower energy consumption.

Processor and memory

There are also no differences in the processor compared to its predecessor. The heart of the system is the "MTK6580" processor from MediaTek, which is also installed in many low budget smartphones. This is a quad-core processor whose Cortex-A7 cores clock at up to 1.3 GHz. What differs, however, is the storage equipment. The Finow X5 Air relies on a 2GB RAM and a 16GB flash memory. This means that at least the storage capacity has doubled. Additional expansion of the internal memory using an SD memory card is not supported. The system is powered by a 450 mAh battery.

Native Android and Watchfaces

On the software side, the Smartwatch runs with a native Android 5.1, as known from smartphones. However, the user interface has been adapted to the circular display of the smartwatch. Apps can be downloaded and installed directly from the preinstalled Google PlayStore. However, the circular display can lead to display problems, which means that not all apps can be operated. In comparison to Finow X5 Plus the user interface of the Finow X5 Air has been optimized again. Among other things, the menu navigation has been made easier, there are new shortcuts and new watch faces. You can choose from a total of 12 pre-installed watch faces. Additional watch faces can be downloaded directly via the smartwatch, and it is also possible to load your own watch faces onto the watch. Instructions can be found in the numerous smartwatch communities.

connectivity

Equipped with a nano SIM slot, it is also possible to make calls with the smartwatch. The GSM frequencies 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and WCDMA frequencies 850/1900/2100 MHz are supported. Thanks to the additional equipment with a microphone and a loudspeaker, the Finow X5 Air is seen as a smartphone for the wrist. If you prefer to forward calls from your smartphone to the smartwatch, you can use Bluetooth 4.0. A WiFi module is also integrated. If the Finow X5 Air is connected to a WLAN, the smartwatch can be used for surfing or apps and watch faces can be downloaded.

GPS, heart rate measurement and pedometer

The sporty side of this Smartwach should not be neglected either. A pedometer counts the daily steps and provides detailed information on the calories burned and the distance covered. A heart rate monitor on the underside of the Finow X5 Air uses a light-emitting diode and a green LED to determine the current heart rate. The smartwatch is also equipped with a GPS module for precise positioning. If you also install Google Maps, the Finow X5 Air can also be converted into a compact navigation system.

assessment

Smartwatch and smartphone manufacturers from China are known for “recycling” old components. The Finow X5 Air is also more of a “recycled” smartwatch than it would represent a significant upgrade to the previous models. Design, display and processor are identical to the previous model "Finow X5 Plus" . Only the memory configuration was expanded and the ROM was minimally adjusted. Due to the small price difference between the two smartwatches, it is still recommended to consider the Finow X5 Air.
