Smartphone disinfection with UV
Disinfection with UV light has long been used in sensitive work areas. Whether in hospitals, laboratories or in food production, disinfection with UV light is considered efficient and environmentally friendly. Especially the UVC light emitted in the wavelength range 200 to 300 nm is considered to be particularly germicidal on bacteria, viruses, yeast and mold. The extent to which this also applies to SARS-CoV-2 has not yet been researched, but other coronaviruses can be effectively fought with UVC light. A product offered through the Xiaomi Youpin Store is the "FIVE Multi-function Disinfection Box" . This not only looks great, but also looks very good on the data sheet. The internal dimensions of this product are 189.5 x 105 x 38 mm, so that the most common smartphones also fit here. The lunch box-shaped box is made of easy-to-clean art that evenly reflects UV light inside. The lid is completely removable.
Instead of two LEDs, only one UV LED is used. With 10 watts of power, the LED lights up in the 260 - 280 nm spectrum and disinfects the smartphone within 15 minutes. The manufacturer states the durability of the LED as 10.000 hours. In addition to sterilization, fast Qi charging with up to 10 watts is also possible. The input power of the USB-C socket is 5V 2A and 9V 2A. The output power is 15W.
