Modern design meets high quality workmanship
The focus of the FIIL Diva headphones is the attractive, modern design. The headphones are available in the colors matt black and matt white. With dimensions of 178 x 157 mm, the foldable Diva headphones are not only compact, they also weigh a light 215g. The ear cups have the “FIIL” lettering on the outside, which lights up when actively used. The ear pads are made of memory foam, a foam that adapts perfectly to the shape of your head. The covering of the ear pads is made of protein leather. The distance between the ear cup and the headphone bracket can be individually adjusted.
What makes the headphones so special is much more the inner workings. An integrated 4GB flash memory enables the storage of over 1000 songs. Music can thus be played without a connected smartphone or tablet. The music files (FLAC / AAC / MP3 / APE / WAV / OGG) can be transferred via a USB socket on one of the ear cups. The FIIL headphones are equipped with a Bluetooth 4.1 module for wireless transmission. The interference-free transmission range is around 10 meters. Wired music playback is possible via a 3.5 mm jack connection. Thanks to the integrated microphone, the headphones can also be used as a headset. Numerous audio codecs are supported for lossless transmission. In addition to aptX, AAC / SBC is also supported. The speech codecs are mSBC / CVSD.
Smart operation through gestures, swipes and speech
The operation is also interesting. A smart control that recognizes gestures and swiping movements, among other things, actually makes these headphones a futuristic, pretentious audio gadget. The volume can be adjusted and songs can be changed by swiping over the ear cup housing. If you remove the headphones from your head, the music playback also stops. The FIIL Diva Pro even has a voice search option, which allows you to search for and play the desired song. However, in English-language test reports that have already been published, the smart control and the voice search have met with criticism. Unfortunately, the headphones also behave like a “diva” and cannot always be controlled perfectly.
HiFi sound and active noise cancellation
The sound of the FIIL Diva is highly praised. The headphones have two 32 mm stereo audio drivers with a titanium-coated membrane. The impedance is a low 32 ohms. A 3D sound mode (MaxWide) conveys the best cinema feeling through audiovisual effects. There is also a special FIIL app, which can be used to individually adjust the 3D sound. In order to guarantee perfect sound even when you're on the move, the headphones rely on sophisticated noise cancellation with 4 filter modes. A total of 4 microphones ensure perfect noise cancellation up to 28 dB. The filter modes are an “Active Reduction Mode” that prevents any unwanted noise. The “Monitor Mode” suppresses background noise, but not speech. This makes it possible to have a conversation while wearing the headphones. With "Open Mode" no outside noise is blocked. The "Wind Mode" only blocks noise caused by wind.
Long-lasting music playback
Finally, we come to the battery life. A rechargeable 580 mAh battery is installed. The playback time is specified by the manufacturer as 30 hours. The standby time is 40 days. Depending on the volume and playback option, the running time will of course differ from the manufacturer's information. According to individual test reports, the runtime can be seen as realistic.
Price and availability
The FIIL Diva was released in November 2016. Backers from the individual crowdfunding programs have already received their copy and are reporting positively about the headphones. However, you should note that there is a standard version and a “Pro” version of the headphones. The crucial difference is that only the Pro version has the HD audio player with 4GB of memory integrated. The 3D sound mode is also only available for the Pro model.
