GoPro HERO5 Black

 Recordings, image stabilizer and GPS

The GoPro HERO5 Black has a 12 megapixel image sensor and enables 4K video recordings at a smooth 30 frames per second. Of course, you can also record in a lower resolution, e.g. 2.7K at a maximum of 60 frames per second, or even 1080p at 120 frames per second. Real slow motion recordings with 240 frames per second at 720p are also possible. Photos are also possible and are taken in JPEG or RAW format. The GoPRO HERO5 Black has an image stabilizer so that you can record videos cleanly even when filming hands-free. It is not yet known whether this works electronically or optically. With a “GoPro Plus” subscription ($5/month) captured recordings can be uploaded directly to the cloud. An additional GPS module tags the recordings with exact coordinates.

Design, touch display and voice control

The design of the GoPRO HERO5 Black has also changed compared to its predecessor. Overall, the camera looks more massive. A waterproof case is no longer required, because the HERO5 Black is inherently waterproof up to 10 meters. Optionally there is also an additional, waterproof housing that enables dives up to 60 meters. The back of the camera has a 2 inch touch display, which can be used to make settings and view recordings. The integrated voice control is also new. Using predefined voice commands, the camera takes photos on command or even starts video recordings.

 Connections and battery

The connections of the GoPro HERO5 Black amount to a USB Type-C socket and a Micro HDMI socket. Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi are available. The recording is made on a Micro SD memory card, which should be at least Class 10. The capacity of the battery is 1.220mAh.

GoPro HERO5 Session

GoPro HERO5 Session

The GoPro HERO5 Session is the successor to the HERO Session and is based on the square design of its predecessor. The image sensor has a resolution of 10 megapixels and also enables 4K video recordings at 30 frames per second. With a resolution of 2.7K, the maximum refresh rate is 60 images per second and with 1080p a maximum of 90 images per second is possible. An image stabilizer is available, although an electronic stabilizer is to be assumed here. Saving RAW photos is not possible and the GPS module is missing. You can do without a waterproof housing with the GoPro HERO Session, because this camera is also waterproof up to 10 meters. The voice module for recognizing voice commands will also be integrated in the GoPro HERO Session.

Both the GoPro HERO5 Black (429.99 €) and the HERO5 Session (329.99 €) will be available from 2. October will be available.
