Almost out of nowhere, Powkiddy, the manufacturer of Supretro, unleashed the handheld game console on the retro community. The concept is surprising, because Supretro is not a classic games console packed with games, but is based on Android, in particular the highly praised Pandora's Box user interface. The console is already delivered with more than 2300 games. In addition to Game Boy classics, Playstation, N64 and Dreamcast games can also be emulated.

The design of the console is based on the well-known Gameboy. At the top there is a 3.5 inch IPS display with 640 x 480 pixel resolution, which corresponds to 229 DPI. In addition to a sharp display, the panel delivers a 60 Hz refresh rate so that games are displayed particularly smoothly.

The operation of Supretro is primarily designed for arcade games. All controls are located below the display. There are no shoulder buttons, which is why the control of N64 and Dreamcast titles takes some getting used to. In addition to an analog stick, the console offers a D-Pad, 6 control buttons, as well as a Home, Select and Start button. The housing is available in white, orange and blue

Android with Pandora's Box interface

Supretro uses the Pandora's Box user interface. This is not only clearly structured, but also offers numerous functions and settings for the system (display brightness, sleep mode) and the games (save states, game settings). The actual operating system is based on Android 6.

Peripherals can be connected to the console via Bluetooth. WiFi enables Supretro to access the games marketplace and receive system updates. Those who prefer to play their games on a large screen can connect the game console via the HDMI out. An additional 3.5mm audio jack enables interference-free gaming on the go.
