Maze Alpha X - the best cheap-almost-rimless smartphone?

The Maze Alpha X is an almost-borderless smartphone of the 2. Generation. The smartphone will be released in November 2017, just 4 months after the release of the Maze Alpha. All information about the smartphone, the manufacturer has now published.

Maze Alpha X

The Maze Alpha X is the successor to the "Maze Alpha" . This is not just an update of the first Alpha smartphone, but rather the manufacturer is relying on a new design and even a high-resolution display in an 18:9 format. Especially after the success of the Maze Alpha, the X could be a very interesting one The successor will possibly even lead the market for cheap, almost borderless smartphones.

Display

The display of the Maze Alpha X has a diagonal of 6 inches with 2160 x 1080 pixels, which corresponds to a point density of 401 PPI. The aspect ratio is thus 18: 9, which will have a significant impact on handling and general use. The so-called in-cell display panel comes from LG and, through the combination of digitizer and LCD display, enables a more compact panel with lower weight and improved display. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The screen-to-body ratio, i.e. the ratio of the display to the housing, is given by Maze as 89.6%. Numerous other bezel-less smartphones have already shown that these values are often incorrect. If you take the case dimensions specified by Maze of 159.8 x 82.5 x 8.1 mm literally, this would result in a screen-to-body ratio of 70.47 percent. Compared to that, achieved a  Xiaomi Mi Mix 2  a screen-to-body ratio of 80.79 percent.

Processor and memory

The smartphone will appear in two versions. The system-on-chip of the Maze Alpha X is the MediaTek MTK6757, better known as the Helio P25. The originally expected MediaTek Helio P30 will not be used after all! It was just as unlikely that the manufacturer would be supplied by Qualcomm. The memory of the Maze Alpha X amounts to a 6GB LPDDR4X memory in combination with an optional 64GB or 128GB flash memory. A memory expansion using a microSD memory card is possible.

Maze Alpha X Review

Camera

Surprisingly, both versions of the Maze Alpha X also appear with different sensor equipment. There is no dual main camera. Instead, the 64GB model appears with a 13 megapixel Sony IMX258 main camera including an F2.0 aperture, whereas the 128GB model uses a 16 megapixel OmniVision OV16880 image sensor, also with an F2.0 aperture. The front camera is the same on both models. This is an 8 megapixel camera with a Sony IMX219 image sensor and F2.0 aperture. As a further feature, Maze specifies a 2x optical zoom.

Design, battery and others

The aspect ratio of 18: 9 makes the Maze Alpha X a particularly slim, tri-bezel-less smartphone. The bezel is said to have shrunk from 1.8 mm to 1.69 mm compared to the first Maze Alpha. The test to be published in the near future will show whether this is true! According to the manufacturer, the lower part of the case also shrinks from 20.10 mm to just 13.58 mm. The back of the smartphone is made of shock- and scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 4. At least that's what the manufacturer states in the specifications for the Maze Alpa X. As a color accent, the smartphone will be available with a blue, silver or black shimmering back. The capacity of the battery is 3900 mAh. The smartphone is charged via USB-C. Further features are a fingerprint scanner, the typical smartphone sensors, GPS, extensive 2G, 3G and 4G cellular support, as well as a multi-colored notification LED.

Maze Alpha X vs Maze Alpha

.

The technical data for the Maze Alpha X reads well. An 18: 9 display with high resolution sounds tempting. The memory configuration also leaves nothing to be desired. The use of the Helio P25 processor was to be expected. It was quite unlikely that Maze would actually opt for the new Helio P30 or even use a Qualcomm processor. It will be interesting to see how the two models will differ in terms of the recording quality of the main camera. As soon as we have reached the test copy, the detailed test report of the Maze Alpa X will follow here!

Somehow strange that a company suddenly comes out of nowhere and has released 4 high-end smartphones within 2 months without anyone having heard just what the brand has to say. In any case, I wish the brand a lot of success, reminds me of Xiaomi. ; D
