Easy retrofitting
The L2 Lite is mounted on the inside of the door and fits standard European profile cylinders as well as Swiss round cylinders. No drilling or changing the lock is required. Setup is done via app instructions, making it ideal for tenants who want to install a lock without disturbing the building structure.
Proximity to Nuki
Visually, Yale follows the same approach as Nuki. Both manufacturers rely on a cylindrical design resembling a doorknob, making the lock appear more compact than the elongated smart locks that were previously common. This sets both systems apart from traditional clip-on solutions, which often appear bulky.
Despite the similar design, the materials and technology differ. Nuki uses the Ultra (our test) and Pro stainless steel and uses a brushless motor that moves doors particularly quickly. Yale uses predominantly plastic and a standard mechanism for the L2 Lite. This appears less high-quality, but significantly reduces the price. At €139, the L2 Lite costs less than half of a Nuki Ultra, which costs around €350.
New operating logic
A special feature is the KeySense function. A short press of the button unlocks the door, while a longer press locks it with an adjustable delay. Yale also offers Auto Unlock. This feature opens the door automatically as soon as the user approaches with their smartphone.
Control is via the Yale Home app. There, you can assign digital keys, view access logs, and, in conjunction with a smart keypad, even set up numeric codes. Push notifications provide real-time notifications of door openings. However, a separate Wi-Fi bridge is required for remote control. The lock also communicates via Matter, Thread, and Bluetooth and can be integrated with platforms such as Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, or Samsung SmartThings.
When it comes to security, Yale highlights encrypted communication and two-factor authentication for user accounts. Concealed mounting on the inside of the door also protects against external tampering.
Market launch in December
The Yale Linus Smart Lock L2 Lite will be available from December 3, 2025, for €139 via the Yale website and in stores.

Looks like a viable alternative to other existing smart door locks like Nuki. It definitely sounds like great value for money. We'll get it and give it a try.
