Xiaomi is bringing new momentum to the streaming world with a redesigned TV stick. The Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd generation) has barely been officially announced, but has already appeared in regular stores.

It has been a few years since we first Xiaomi TV Stick tested Back then, it was a fairly affordable way to equip an old TV with Android TV. The compact streaming stick launched in 2020, followed by a first 4K upgrade in 2023. Now, the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen) is a further revised version that is even more technically advanced.

What can the new stick do?

The form factor hasn't changed much. As usual, the stick connects directly to the TV via HDMI and is powered via USB. The real upgrade lies within: instead of Android TV, there's now Google TV with Android 14. The interface is more modern, with better app integration, improved voice control, and personalized recommendations.

The stick is rounder in shape than the first model

The chip has been upgraded to a slightly faster Amlogic S905X5M, which, together with 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, should provide more performance. While it's not top-of-the-line hardware, it's perfectly sufficient for traditional streaming tasks.

However, the micro-USB port for power supply seems a bit outdated, as according to EU directives, only new devices with USB-C may be sold from the end of 2024. It is therefore questionable whether Xiaomi will officially offer the stick in the EU.
