The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Ultra impresses in the test with 1.200 watts, strong suspension, high riding comfort and a good app, but also shows its limits in the mountain test.

Design and workmanship

I personally find the design extremely appealing. Xiaomi combines solid carbon steel with striking yellow accents, clearly setting it apart from the mostly rather bland city e-scooters. In direct comparison, the 6 Ultra almost looks like a sports car among e-scooters.

There's nothing to criticize about the build quality either. The frame, handlebars, and footboard remain stable even with a rider weight of around 100 kilograms and offer plenty of reserves up to the maximum payload of 140 kilograms. At 1,90 meters tall, I also had ample space, with the handlebar height and wide footboard being a good fit.

The footboard features a grippy, non-slip coating that provides a secure hold even with larger shoes. The curved rear end is also a striking feature. It allows the rear foot to rest slightly elevated, ensuring a comfortably stable position, especially during acceleration and on uneven surfaces.

The robust construction comes at a price, however. At 33,7 kilograms, the e-scooter is anything but lightweight. This is noticeable as soon as you unpack it. While it's possible to lift it out of the box alone, it's significantly easier and less strenuous on your back with two people.

The assembly itself, however, is quick and easy. Insert the handlebars, secure them with four screws, and give everything a quick check. A small but sturdy kickstand is located on the side, allowing the scooter to be parked safely.

For transport, the steering column can be folded down. To do this, first release the safety lock on the quick-release lever and pull the lever all the way down. The steering column then folds down onto the footboard and is secured to the rear hook on the handlebar using a buckle. The mechanism is straightforward, but this doesn't exactly make the 33,7-kilogram scooter any more manageable. However, when folded, it fits easily into most cars.

Display and operation

A 3-inch TFT color display is centrally located on the handlebars, clearly showing the most important information while riding. This includes speed, riding mode, battery level, and various status and warning messages. During the hill test, the temperature warning was immediately noticeable, as it was clearly displayed in red. The display remains easily readable in sunlight and is also well-illuminated in the dark.

Operation is via a four-way control system directly on the handlebars. Throttle, brakes, riding modes, and turn signals are easily accessible and quickly become second nature after a short familiarization period. The yellow power button is located to the right of the controls. Acceleration is controlled either by a thumb lever or a twist grip. Visibility is ensured by a front headlight, a rear light with brake light function, and turn signals.

How does the scooter ride? In short, the Xiaomi has plenty of power. With up to 1.200 watts, it accelerates strongly and doesn't feel sluggish even with a rider weighing around 100 kilograms.

The available modes are pedestrian, D, and sport. In pedestrian mode, the vehicle moves at speeds of up to 6 km/h, in D mode up to 15 km/h, and in sport mode up to a maximum of 20 km/h. There is also a boost mode that briefly provides full peak power.

The power remains easily controllable, and even though more would be technically possible, the German version is consistently limited to 20 km/h. Therefore, the power reserves are less noticeable in the top speed and more apparent when starting off, accelerating, and climbing hills.

The mountain test

Things got interesting on longer inclines of about seven to ten percent. One of my test routes climbs approximately 75 meters in altitude. With a rider weight of around 100 kilograms, this represents a significantly higher sustained strain than a short ramp.

Initially, the Xiaomi 6 Ultra climbed smoothly. However, under prolonged heavy load, a red temperature warning appeared on the display. At the same time, the scooter reduced its power and slowed down. After a short break, it was able to continue.

I don't find that problematic. The automatic power reduction protects the motor, controller, and battery from excessive thermal stress. However, the test also shows that a maximum gradient specification alone says little about sustained power output. The 6 Ultra handles short climbs without any problems, but under prolonged high load, it will eventually reach its thermal limits.

Suspension and brakes

One of the greatest strengths of the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Ultra, in my opinion, is clearly the front and rear suspension. Along with the The 12-inch all-terrain tire allows the 6 Ultra to absorb poor asphalt, smaller potholes and other uneven surfaces significantly better than simpler models.

Braking is handled by disc brakes at the front and rear, supported by E-ABS. Despite its considerable weight, the 6 Ultra decelerates powerfully and with good control. Even under heavy braking, it remains stable and predictable.

Xiaomi home app

The Xiaomi Home app is required for complete setup. It connects to the scooter via Bluetooth and displays information such as battery level, estimated remaining range, and riding mode. In our test, for example, a remaining range of 55 kilometers was estimated at 84 percent battery level.

One of the more useful features is the automatic motor lock. When activated, the scooter locks itself automatically when switched off. If it moves, the wheels lock, and the scooter alerts the driver both audibly and visually. In my quiet residential area, the signal is clearly audible, but in a city center, it would likely be lost among cars, buses, and conversations. A slightly louder alarm would therefore have been helpful.

The app also offers several charging options. Charging times can be scheduled and a maximum charging limit set. This means the battery doesn't need to be charged to 100 percent every time you use it. A full charge takes around 10,5 hours with the standard charger. It's faster with the separately available Xiaomi Electric Scooter Fast Charger 2.

The app also allows you to adjust energy recuperation. When decelerating, some of the kinetic energy is fed back into the battery. Don't expect significant range gains from this, but the function is quite useful in hilly areas.

 Other settings include TCS anti-slip, E-brake, E-ABS, starting speed, and D mode. E-brake and E-ABS were activated on my test vehicle, while TCS was initially deactivated. The traction control system is primarily designed to reduce unnecessary wheel slip, especially on slippery surfaces.

The app also saves routes driven, which can be viewed individually including distance. Additionally, the headlights can automatically adjust to the ambient light level.

Battery and real-world range

Xiaomi has installed a 585 Wh (12,5 Ah) battery and claims a range of up to 75 kilometers, which of course only applies under ideal conditions. The battery is protected in the bottom of the device, while the IPX6-rated housing offers additional protection against splashing water.

The actual range on a single battery charge depends heavily on rider weight, riding mode, outside temperature, wind, tire pressure, and especially the terrain. Comparative tests have shown ranges of approximately 50 to 54 kilometers.

Based on my own test drives, I believe this figure is realistic. I wasn't able to conduct a full range test over this distance within the short test period.

CONCLUSION

The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Ultra makes a very good overall impression. I was particularly impressed by the strong suspension, the stable ride, and the powerful motor. Even with a rider weight of around 100 kilograms, the scooter handles well and offers decent performance even on inclines. The comprehensive Xiaomi Home app, with features like motor lock, energy recuperation, charging settings, and various riding aids, is also very well done.

The scooter showed its limitations on longer and steeper inclines, where a temperature warning appeared and the power was reduced under sustained high load during testing. However, my biggest criticism remains the weight. At 33,7 kilograms, the 6 Ultra is not a scooter you would want to regularly carry up several flights of stairs.

Anyone who has a ground-level parking option and is looking for a powerful, comfortable e-scooter will get a strong yellow speedster for city and country with the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Ultra.
