ThiEYE i60 Test - High Resolution Action Cam
The ThiEYE i60 is one of the few action cameras that is different from traditional action-based Chinese cams. ThiEYE is a manufacturer that offers no OEM cameras, but produces its own cameras and thus stands in direct competition with more well-known brand products. Whether the ThiEYE i60 actually can keep up with the branded products, you can read in this review.

First impression of the ThiEYE i60
Delivered is the ThiEYE i60 in a visually appealing box that beautifully presents the camera. Unpacked, the camera is in her waterproof housing, which can be opened easily. The ThiEYE i60 is just measuring 59x41x25mm and is compared to other action cams with one Weight of 65g a real lightweight.
In terms of hardware, ThiEYE has the latest technology from OmniVision installed, which one Resolution up to 1440p allows. On 1440p 30 FPS (pictures-per-second) are easily possible. But even lower resolutions can be adjusted. On the 1080p standard for Action Cams, the i60 even creates phenomenal 60 pictures-per-second. Here you can even regulate the frame number, so that 30 or 60 FPS are possible. For slow-motion shots, a resolution of 720p is suitable. Here are rich 120 FPS possible. So you can create 5x more images than the human eye (24FPS) even perceives.
Pictures can shoot the ThiEYE i60 with up to 12 megapixels, whereby here also 8 or 4 megapixels are adjustable. In addition, a 152 ° wide-angle lens was used and installed an 6 layer lens, which has a f-number of F2.8. The ThiEYE i60 also has an 1.5 "LCD display installed. In addition, the housing has a USB 2.0 jack, a micro HDMI jack and a micro SD card slot. A microphone for sound recordings has also been integrated.
As a further delicacy, the i60 has integrated a Wi-Fi module. Via WLAN and a special app, you can connect directly to the camera and operate it via smartphone or tablet. The camera has several function keys integrated, which allow easy operation. Among other things, we have a power-on / power-off button that also allows you to cycle through the different modes, a trigger button, back and forth buttons, and a Wi-Fi button.
Here is a shot in the indoor area with a resolution of 1080p and 60 pictures-per-second. The video quality of the ThiEYE i60 is impressive!
For commissioning the ThiEYE i60 an additional Micro SD card is required. It is important to note that the camera only supports cards up to 32GB.
The camera can be operated both via the function keys on the housing, but also via WLAN. To connect the camera with your smartphone or tablet you have to activate the WLAN of the camera. The camera then builds its own Wi-Fi network, to which one can connect via Wi-Fi. With an additional app that is available for both Android and iOS, (ThiEYE APP), the camera can then be controlled. Within the app you can choose between the different shutter modes (video, photo, photo burst, photo time lapse and photo timer). Likewise, one has an overview of the current WLAN signal strength and the remaining battery life. In addition, video settings, photo settings and general camera settings can be made via the app and you can also view his shot video and images directly and share them via social media.
Within the Action Cam interface, there are numerous settings options. Here is a list:

I've already had several action cams in my hands, which were good or less good, but the ThiEYE i60 is my current favorite. The camera is terrific all along the line. An Action Cam, which offers so many recruitment options, I had not yet. It can really adjust almost everything according to personal needs. Even the integrated WLAN can be configured freely, which is usually not possible with comparable models with WLAN.
Speaking of Wi-Fi. The function is extremely useful if you have the camera mounted somewhere and has no access to the display of the cam. The smartphone is usually close at hand and can easily make the most necessary camera settings or change the modes. By the way, you also have direct access to the shot video or picture material via the WLAN.
Size and housing
In terms of size, the camera corresponds to the usual consorts and should fit in all common housing, you should not be satisfied with the enclosed housing. The enclosed case is in my opinion but okay and corresponds to the usual housing types. The spring-loaded keys are easy to operate and do not seem too loose, but not too tight.
The video quality of the ThiEYE i60 is consistently good. It does not yet come close to a GoPro 4, but it is comparable to a GoPro 3 or Xiaomi Yi. The brightness adjustment succeeds neatly the i60. What I noticed, however, are small FPS burglaries as soon as the light conditions change during a fast movement. Here should ThiEYE, if possible, by a firmware update touch up.
Colors represents the camera correctly. The pictures I did not like now. Since many smartphones make much better pictures. The sound recordings are also clear and clear without a watertight case. With housing, the sound is barely perceptible and looks a bit dull. The accessories are good. There are not as many parts as in other Action Cams, but the enclosed parts are of higher quality. There are many parts that can be attached to selfie sticks, which can be combined with helmets or stuck somewhere.
