SwitchBot Lock Ultra – Smart protection, easy to install

Published by Timo Altmeyer on the 7. January 2025

SwitchBot has opened a new chapter for smart door locks with the Lock Ultra at CES 2025. The successor to the popular Lock Pro focuses on maximum versatility, uncomplicated installation and a dizzying number of functions.

Fits almost always! And if not, print your adapter

The big selling point of the SwitchBot Lock Ultra is its universal compatibility. According to the manufacturer, it fits 99,9% of all door locks, from deadbolts to mortise systems. If your home lock is one of the 0,1% that this does not apply to, SwitchBot offers 3D-printed adapters that can be customized.

Tenants in particular will be pleased with this approach, as the Lock Ultra is simply glued or screwed on. This is much less complicated than with other smart locks, where the entire cylinder often has to be replaced

Compared to the SwitchBot Lock Pro, the Lock Ultra looks even more modern and sophisticated.

 FastUnlock™: 16 ways to open a door

The SwitchBot Lock Ultra offers 16 unlocking methods – one more than its predecessor, the SwitchBot Lock Pro (here is our test). The options include a fingerprint scanner, the smartphone app, NFC cards or voice commands via Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri. A new addition is an auto-unlock function.

In terms of security, the Lock Ultra relies on several security standards, including AES-128 encryption, tamper warnings and an auto-lock function. This is not a real revolution at this point, but everything you would expect from a modern lock.

When it comes to smart home integration, SwitchBot shows that it takes the ecosystem seriously. The Lock Ultra supports Matter (with a SwitchBot Hub) and works seamlessly with Apple HomeKit, Alexa, Google Assistant, and the entire SwitchBot universe.

No energy, no problem

Nothing is more daunting than the fear of standing in front of a locked door because the battery is empty. SwitchBot has also thought about this worst-case scenario and designed a triple power system for it.

Triple protection: Three batteries guarantee reliable unlocking – even in an emergency.

A rechargeable battery that lasts up to nine months without recharging, an emergency battery and a reserve for up to five unlockings ensure that the door can be unlocked even in the worst case scenario.

Doorbell Upgrade: The SwitchBot Video Doorbell

To match the Lock Ultra, SwitchBot has also introduced a new video doorbell. With a 2K resolution, color night vision and a 165° field of view, the doorbell is a practical addition to smart homes. The doorbell combines functionality with easy installation without complicated wiring. Here, too, either glue or screw is used and, according to the manufacturer, the process only takes three minutes.

The smart doorbell is connected to a portable 4,3-inch display, which also acts as a SwitchBot gateway, which can be used to control the entire SwitchBot ecosystem.

Price and availability

The SwitchBot Lock Ultra , along with the new Video Doorbell and portable monitor, is expected to launch towards the end of the first quarter of 2025. SwitchBot has not yet announced exact details on pricing
