Roborock Saros Z70: World's first vacuum robot with a helping hand

Updated by Timo Altmeyer on the 20. January 2025

Roborock presented its latest product range at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Under the motto "Rock a New Era", the company showed the Roborock Saros Z70 - the world's first vacuum robot with a foldable robot arm that independently clears socks, towels and other obstacles out of the way.

OmniGrip robot arm

The special thing about the Saros Z70 is the OmniGrip robot arm, which extends directly out of the housing. On its first trip, Roborock's new flagship vacuum cleaner explores the room with the help of a camera and LED lighting, detects obstacles such as socks, toys or small objects up to 300 grams and marks them on a virtual room map.

In the second pass, the OmniGrip robot arm then takes bold action, clears everything out of the way and also cleans the previously blocked areas.

The five-axis, foldable arm detects obstacles, picks up objects weighing up to 300 grams and places them in a specified location.

Users can specify the storage location for the items themselves via the Roborock app. Be it a box for dirty laundry or a collection point in the room. The robot can also be programmed to return the items to their original location after cleaning. This makes the Z70 not only a cleaning aid, but also an organizational aid.

When the OmniGrip arm is not in use, it retracts discreetly into the housing.

StarSight Autonomous System 2.0

To ensure that the Saros Z70 finds its way around the home, Roborock relies on the new StarSight Autonomous System 2.0 . The AI-supported navigation system combines 3D mapping, dual-light 3D ToF sensors and an RGB camera to avoid obstacles such as cables, chair legs and irregular pieces of furniture and to navigate precisely even in complex households.

The classic laser tower is also no longer needed, which means the height is reduced to a slim 7,98 cm and the Saros Z70 fits under most sofas, beds and other low furniture.

Roborock Saros Z70 flat design
Without the typical laser tower, the Saros Z70 is significantly flatter than conventional vacuum robots.

Vacuuming and wiping at the highest level

In addition to its cleaning function, the Saros Z70 offers the usual strong cleaning performance from Roborock:

  •  22.000 Pa suction power: Enough power to remove dust, hair and coarse dirt from hard floors and carpets.
  •  Dual-Spinning Mops with VibraRise™ 4.0 Technology: The mops automatically lift when carpets are detected and ensure thorough cleaning on hard floors.
  •  AdaptLift Chassis: The Z70's chassis allows the robot to overcome door thresholds up to 4 cm and move effortlessly on different floor types.

Smart functions for more comfort

Roborock hasn't skimped on smart functions either. With the help of its camera and AI, the robot can recognize lost objects such as keys or remote controls and save their location in the app. If an object is ever misplaced, the robot helps you find it again quickly.

The integration into smart home systems such as Alexa, Siri or Google Home is seamless thanks to Matter 1.4 compatibility. In addition, Roborock's own voice assistant, "Hey Rocky", is available and OTA updates ensure that the Saros Z70 will continue to be upgraded with new functions and improvements in the future.

Roborock Saros Z70 drives over 4cm threshold
The Saros Z70 crosses door thresholds up to 4 cm high and is therefore also suitable for apartments with different floor transitions.

User-friendly docking station

Also included is a new multifunctional docking station that makes maintenance tasks even easier. When docking, the dust container is emptied, the water tank is filled and the dirty water is disposed of. The mops are cleaned with hot water and then dried with hot air to prevent the formation of bacteria.

Thanks to the quick-charge function, the robot is ready for use again in just 2,5 hours.

  • The idea is a step in the right direction. I think it would be great if the arm could also be used to clean under furniture.

    • Cool idea, but I think that would hinder the robot more than help it. It's already flat enough to fit on most furniture. They should make sure the arm doesn't cause any problems before they tackle something like that.

      • I saw a video about it and the arm is pretty loud. I have to agree with AnDy, it looks like there are a lot of sources of error and I have practically nothing lying around in my apartment that it could put away.
