Roborock Qrevo S ProX review: Why spend more?

Qrevo S ProX: Design, build quality and scope of delivery

Anyone currently browsing the Roborock product range would almost need a map. There's the Qrevo, Qrevo Curv, Qrevo Edge, Saros, and suddenly, amidst it all, a Qrevo S ProX appears. It gets even more confusing because some retailers are selling the robot as the Qrevo S Pro (without the X). Don't let this confuse you, though. Technically, it's the same model. 

Even upon unpacking, it quickly becomes clear where Roborock positions the Qrevo S ProX. The included accessories are adequate, but don't exactly inspire enthusiasm. The Qrevo S Pro comes with the multi-function charging station, a ramp, the power cord, and pre-installed mop pads. Only the Qrevo S ProX additionally includes two replacement mop pads and a replacement dustbin filter.

Robotic vacuum

Visually, it offers familiar fare with a rounded design, available in black or white, which looks equally at home in the living room or kitchen. As is often the case, a LiDAR turret for navigation sits on the top, which, unlike on often more expensive models, cannot be retracted. Nevertheless, the height remains a pleasingly moderate 9,65 centimeters, meaning the Qrevo S ProX fits under most sofas, beds, or sideboards.

There is also little cause for criticism regarding the build quality. Neither the robot nor the docking station appear cheap, even if in direct comparison to a Saros 10R (here is our testOne notices that not every plastic part screams premium. The materials are somewhat simpler, but everything fits together neatly and leaves a robust impression.

Things get more interesting on the underside. Here, Roborock uses a solid rubber main brush and combines it with a special anti-tangle side brush designed to reduce hair entanglement. Behind this are the two rotating mopping pads, which can automatically lift up when cleaning carpets. The Qrevo S ProX forgoes spectacular designs with extendable arms, foldable brushes, or other technical gimmicks.

All-in-one cleaning station

For its price range, this all-in-one cleaning station offers above-average performance. "All-in-one" doesn't mean it makes coffee in the morning, but it does take care of almost everything related to cleaning. Dust is automatically collected in a 2,7-liter bag, fresh water comes from a 4-liter tank, and dirty water disappears into a separate 3,5-liter container. After cleaning, the mops are washed with water up to 75°C and then dried at 45°C.

However, all these functions also require more space than a conventional vacuum station. At almost 52 centimeters high and nearly 49 centimeters deep, this station isn't one you can simply slip discreetly between two pieces of furniture, but it remains relatively compact compared to some other multi-functional stations.

Qrevo S ProX: Setup and initial mapping

Setting up the device is one of those things Roborock has become almost boringly good at. That's meant as a compliment. Scan the QR code, enter your Wi-Fi credentials, wait a few seconds, and the Qrevo S ProX appears in the app. Anyone who's set up a Roborock before will find it immediately intuitive. But even first-time robot vacuum owners shouldn't have any trouble.

After the initial connection, the app sends the robot directly on a quick mapping run. It neither vacuums nor mops during this process. Instead, the Qrevo S ProX traverses the apartment once and creates an initial map using its LiDAR tower.

In my case, the mapping was completed within a few minutes, and the rooms were mostly recognized correctly. The robot logically assigned doors, passageways, and furniture, although room boundaries, especially around arches, sometimes tend to blur. A hallway might suddenly become part of the living room, while the dining room is unexpectedly declared its own domain.

This can be corrected in just a few steps using the app, which guides you through the corrections perfectly after the initial mapping. Even premium models struggle with the same issue in my apartment, so it's nothing dramatic.

Once the map has been customized, all convenient features become available. Rooms can be individually named, merged, or split. No-go zones, virtual walls, and multiple maps for different floors can also be quickly set up later.

Qrevo S ProX: Roborock App

Hardware is only half the battle when it comes to a robot vacuum, as much of the functionality is controlled by the app. The Qrevo S ProX benefits from Roborock's years of experience in this area, which is why the Roborock app is among the best.

The homepage appears pleasantly uncluttered, and instead of having to wade through countless menus and settings, the most important functions such as map view, cleaning start and room selection are readily available.

Those who want to delve deeper will find plenty of opportunities to experiment. The Qrevo S ProX can not only vacuum or mop, but also vacuum first and then mop, if desired. Additionally, suction power, water volume, and the number of cleaning cycles can be individually adjusted. For particularly thorough cleaning, individual rooms can be cleaned multiple times, or specific areas can be selected via the room control function.

There are special carpet settings. Here you can specify whether the suction power should be automatically increased on carpets and how the mop heads should behave. To keep carpets dry, the Qrevo S ProX can raise its mop heads by 10 millimeters.

If you don't want to deal with every single setting, you can activate SmartPlan 2.0 instead. With this setting, the robot automatically selects suitable settings for the respective room type. In testing, this was actually my favorite mode, as the results were usually spot on right away and I rarely had to intervene manually.

Features also include schedules, cleaning routines, and a remote control mode. Even the station itself is highly configurable. For example, you can set how often the mops should be washed or when the automatic dustbin emptying should occur. The Qrevo S ProX can be integrated into existing smart home systems via Alexa, Google Home, Siri Shortcuts, and Matter.

The Qrevo S ProX does without the really fancy features. Roborock uses additional front sensors for its Reactive Tech obstacle detection. However, it doesn't offer functions like live video streaming, remote monitoring, or particularly sophisticated AI object recognition. But I didn't really miss any of them in everyday use.

Qrevo S ProX: Navigation and obstacle detection

For navigation, Roborock relies on a combination of PreciSense LiDAR and its so-called Reactive Tech obstacle detection. Put simply, the LiDAR turret on top creates a precise map of the apartment, ensuring the robot always knows its location. The Reactive Tech obstacle detection on the front, on the other hand, is designed to identify and avoid objects lying around before they become an unintentional ride for cables, socks, or slippers.

In the test, the Qrevo S ProX moved through the apartment in a very structured manner, cleaning rooms in a clean, systematic way. If the kitchen was specifically selected, the robot went directly there instead of taking unnecessary detours through other rooms.

Even in challenging lighting conditions, its orientation capabilities remained unchanged despite the lack of an LED headlight. LiDAR continues to be one of the most reliable technologies for robotic vacuum cleaners and functions flawlessly even in dark rooms.

There's room for improvement in obstacle detection. In our tests, the Qrevo S ProX reliably detected and avoided furniture, chairs, and larger objects. Stairs and other drop-offs also posed no problem.

The Qrevo S ProX only becomes noticeably less sensitive when smaller objects like cables, shoes, socks, or pet toys come into play. Cables are among its biggest weaknesses. Depending on the situation, they are sometimes detected, but often simply run over or even dragged along.

The Qrevo S ProX isn't alone in this. Many models in this price range struggle with small objects. In fact, this is one of the main ways the Qrevo S ProX differs from more expensive models. Those typically use more sophisticated camera systems with better object recognition and react more intelligently overall.

The app does offer the option to increase the sensitivity of obstacle detection, which slightly improves the hit rate with smaller objects. My advice would therefore be to activate this setting immediately after setup.

The Qrevo S ProX, however, shows its strengths when it comes to door thresholds. It reliably overcomes obstacles up to two centimeters high. This is perfectly adequate for most apartments; only older buildings with particularly high thresholds might pose a problem.

Qrevo S ProX: Cleaning in practical test

The Qrevo S ProX is clearly at home on hard floors. Dust, hair, and small crumbs disappear in the first pass, so you rarely feel the need to vacuum again. Only with larger debris does it sometimes lack the final push. Instead of vacuuming it up immediately, the robot occasionally pushes individual particles around before they finally end up in the dustbin.

 Hair is no challenge for the Qrevo S ProX. The combination of a full rubber brush and an anti-tangle side brush noticeably reduces maintenance compared to many older models. While individual hairs may still wrap around the brush, the majority go directly to the dustbin.

On carpets, the Qrevo S ProX automatically activates the carpet boost function when needed, which effectively removes normal dirt. The carpet pile is visibly loosened, leaving the typical cleaning paths more commonly associated with a traditional vacuum cleaner. Only with thicker and particularly dense carpets does the difference to premium models become apparent. While the Qrevo S ProX still delivers respectable results here, it doesn't achieve the deep cleaning performance of a Saros 10R or other top-of-the-line models.

Wiping performance

Roborock uses two rotating mop heads that move across the floor at up to 200 revolutions per minute. Unlike simple drag mops, dirt is actually mechanically agitated, which makes a noticeable difference in practice.

The Qrevo S ProX removes fresh stains, dust residue, or minor splashes in the kitchen just as effectively as the more expensive models. Coffee, cocoa, or other typical everyday spills usually disappear after one or two passes.

Only with stains that have been lingering on the floor for quite some time does the Qrevo S ProX reach its limits. While dried-in residue is visibly reduced, it isn't always completely removed. In these cases, only traditional manual cleaning with a mop will do the trick.

Edges and corners

Unlike many current premium models, this robot has neither an extendable side brush nor an extendable mop. As a result, it cannot completely reach baseboards, furniture corners, and narrow edges, leaving narrow strips of approximately three centimeters along walls.

Cleaning speed and battery

Roborock has opted for a 5.200 mAh battery, which, according to the manufacturer, should allow runtimes of up to 180 minutes. As usual, such claims should be taken with a grain of salt, but in practice, the Qrevo S ProX performs quite well. Areas between 70 and 100 square meters can generally be cleaned without any problems in a single pass.

During cleaning, the robot regularly returns to its charging station to rinse its mops and then automatically resumes cleaning from the last cleaned area. While this slightly extends the cleaning time, it ensures that the same dirty mops aren't dragged all over the apartment. A compromise that's easy to accept.

The low noise level is also a pleasant surprise. During normal cleaning, the Qrevo S ProX operates relatively quietly and is barely noticeable, even in a home office. It only gets really loud when the station empties the dustbin. For a few seconds, it sounds like a small jet engine starting up. After that, however, it quickly becomes quiet again.

Maintenance

Maintenance is usually limited to refilling the fresh water tank and occasionally emptying the wastewater tank. As mentioned above, the station handles the rest largely automatically.

All important components are easily accessible. The water tanks are accessible from the top, the dust bag can be changed quickly, and the main brush can also be removed without tools if necessary.

What I personally missed was an automatic detergent dispenser. Since I regularly test models from significantly higher price ranges, I've become somewhat spoiled by such convenient features. To be fair, though, automatic dispensing is more the exception than the rule in this price range.

If desired, special cleaning agents for robot vacuums can be added directly to the fresh water tank. It is important to use suitable, non-foaming products that leave no residue in the pipes, tank, or mopping system.
