Reolink presents new OMVI and Power Efficient series in Munich

Reolink hosted an event in Munich to provide an outlook on upcoming developments in smart home and security technology. The focus was on new technologies for intelligent video surveillance and the presentation of two new product series: the OMVI Series and the Power-Efficient Series.

OMVI series: Triple lens for all-round monitoring

The new OMVI series attracted particular interest, as Reolink addresses the compromise between overview and detailed capture. While conventional cameras can either monitor a large area or capture individual areas in detail, Reolink combines a panoramic camera with an additional pan and tilt module.

The panoramic unit continuously monitors the entire area and serves as a kind of digital situational awareness display. If it detects movement, the PTZ module automatically takes over tracking the object. Thanks to SyncTrack, people or vehicles remain in focus even across larger areas. At the same time, the camera maintains an overall view.

Instead of installing multiple cameras for different viewing angles, larger areas can be covered with less hardware. The OMVI X16 PoE combines a 16 MP panoramic camera with an additional 8 MP tracking lens, including 16x optical zoom. This provides a total of 24 MP.

AI is becoming a decisive competitive factor.

While hardware improvements are now often only implemented gradually, artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming the most important differentiating factor.

Here too, Reolink demonstrated its future direction. The new ReoNeura AI enables, among other things, local video searches directly within recordings. Events can be found more quickly and automatically, without having to manually search through past time periods. At the same time, more precise detection algorithms are designed to reduce false alarms.

This development is likely to significantly shape the market in the coming years. The question will no longer be how many megapixels a camera has, but rather how reliably it detects and processes relevant events.

Energy efficiency as a new focus

Another recurring theme throughout the event was energy efficiency. With its new Power Efficient series, Reolink is responding to a trend that is particularly crucial for battery-powered cameras.

Consumers especially want flexible security solutions that are easy to install and don't require complicated wiring. To guarantee long battery life, Reolink uses Qualcomm's particularly energy-efficient Wi-Fi technology in its new Power Efficient series, which is said to offer 96% longer battery life than the industry standard (measured with 5 minutes of recording time per day).

Among the first products presented is the new Argus MagiCam. This compact 2 MP camera is completely wireless and can be flexibly mounted thanks to its magnetic bracket. Also introduced was the new 4 MP Video Doorbell (2nd generation), which, in addition to intelligent object recognition, can be operated both via battery (10-month battery life) and with a cable.

Open discussion about the future of the smart home

At the conclusion of the official program, Michael Rief, Country Director Reolink Germany, and smart home expert Christopher Strobel discussed current developments in the industry with the media representatives present.

It became clear that the security camera market is currently undergoing an exciting period of transformation. While high resolution and improved night vision were long the most important selling points, intelligent object recognition, local AI processing, automated analysis functions, and minimal energy consumption are now increasingly taking center stage.

At the same time, security cameras are increasingly evolving from mere surveillance devices into central components of networked smart home systems. Today, users expect not only live images or recordings, but also intelligent automations, reliable notifications, and seamless integration into existing platforms and ecosystems.
