Powerful display and powerful performance
realme uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the current Ferrari of Android processors. This recently unveiled chip is manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process and achieves clock speeds of up to 4,6 GHz.
According to realme, CPU performance has been increased by around 20 percent compared to the previous generation, while energy efficiency has improved by about a third. Initial tests confirm the enormous peak performance, but also show the typical behavior of current high-end SoCs, which throttle thermally under sustained load. In everyday use, however, this effect is unlikely to be noticeable and is primarily measurable during extended gaming sessions.
The display is a BOE Q10 AMOLED panel, which is also used in current iQOO and Vivo devices. It measures 6,79 inches, has a resolution of 3.136 x 1.440 pixels, and offers an adaptive refresh rate (LTPO) of up to 144 Hz. With a theoretical peak brightness of 7.000 nits, the display promises excellent readability even in direct sunlight.
realme x Ricoh GR
For the camera system, Realme has teamed up with the traditional Japanese manufacturer Ricoh, known for the "GR" series popular with street photographers.
The setup consists of three modules:
- 50 MP main camera with OIS and a 1/1.56 inch sensor
- 200 MP telephoto camera (Samsung HP5) with periscope optics and 3x optical zoom as well as OIS
- 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera without autofocus
The telephoto sensor is particularly interesting from a technical standpoint. The HP5 enables high low-light reserves through pixel binning and a natural depth effect thanks to its glass periscope optics.
The software features that simulate Ricoh's classic 28mm and 40mm characteristics are particularly interesting. This should allow photos to stand out from conventional smartphone filters and be much closer to the GR aesthetic.
One curious design feature is the interchangeable camera frame. While it serves no technical purpose, it allows for design personalization.
7.000 mAh battery
For the battery, realme uses a silicon-carbon alloy, which allows for a higher energy density. This allows the device to remain relatively slim despite its 7.000 mAh capacity, achieving a thickness of approximately 8,2 mm.
Charging is possible with up to 120 watts via cable or with 50 watts wirelessly. A full charge via cable takes approximately 43 minutes.
