Orvibo S20 WLAN socket in the test

Updated by Timo Altmeyer on the 1. October 2024

Having a so-called Smart Home is no longer a science fiction. More and more manufacturers are embarking on the move of the smart home and bring products on the market, which make everyday life easier and network devices together. A socket that can be controlled via its own Wi-Fi with a corresponding app has brought the manufacturer Orvibo on the market. How it works and if it's good, I'll show you now.

First impression of the Orvibo S20

The Orvibo S20 is a Wi-Fi-enabled power outlet, which can be seen between the actual power outlet and the device as an adapter. The socket is controlled by an app that is available for both Android and iOS. The Orvibo S20 can operate devices with up to 2200W. It understands the WLAN frequency range 2.4GHz, as well as the encryptions WEP, WPA and WPA2.

With regard to the scope of delivery, a warranty card and an operating manual in English were included in addition to the socket.

OPERATION

The socket must be in "pairing" mode for commissioning. The attached LED must flash red repeatedly. A special app called “WiWo” is required to connect the socket to the WLAN. In addition, the smartphone or tablet must also be in the WLAN network. The app then sends the WiFi connection data to the Orvibo S20 socket, which configures itself.

App

Within the app you can manage the outlet. You can switch on and off, delete or change the configuration. In addition, the app has a timer function, so that the Orvibo S20 automatically turns on or off at certain times. Scenarios can also be configured.

CONCLUSION

The socket reacts immediately to keystrokes made on the smartphone or tablet. The workmanship of the Orvibo S20 is good, it is very easy to use and also offers child safety. The app offers many useful functions, including a timer function and scenarios. Unfortunately, the socket could not access my hidden WiFi. Only when I made the SSID public did a connection work.

The Orvibo S20 makes everyday life a lot easier and is a good way to the Smart Home. Above all, anyone who carries his smartphone with him at all times can easily control his devices. Clear purchase recommendation!

  • Hello Timo!
I just stumbled upon your post about the Orvibo socket and was surprised that you updated it on October 1.10.2024st, 2016. I found your post because I googled Wiwo and Orvibo. And I thought I would find something new about the device in it. But it looks like this is still your text from XNUMX.
I have 2 of these sockets and I have to say that the manufacturer probably no longer supports the thing and it has gotten worse over time. When I bought the S20, I had an old Android phone. The Wiwo app was compatible with it and the device worked as described here. For the next generation of phones and Android, the Play Store refused to install the Wiwo app. It still worked with the detour of an apk installation. I couldn't get it to work on the last two phones.
I still have the phone that it worked on, just because of the two sockets. 2 weeks ago I had to move one of the sockets to a different WiFi network and so I had to delete it from the app. After I got it back in the app in the other WiFi network, I realized that you can only switch it on if the S20 and the phone are on the same WiFi network. This prevents newly added devices from being transferred to the cloud. Or maybe the cloud has been switched off. The timer doesn't work anymore either, by the way, and that was the main reason for using it. There is probably no other smart home app that the device works with. As far as I know, there is no news online about the demise of smart home pioneer Orvibo.
    Best regards
    Michael

    • Hi Michael,
The article is in fact almost a decade old and was probably accidentally given a new date when we changed the design in October. Orvibo still seems to exist as a brand, but the socket most likely reached its end of life several years ago. There are now much more modern systems available, including those with cross-manufacturer Matter support, at a reasonable price.
