Display without a visible front camera
On the front, Nubia continues to use a virtually bezel-less 6,85-inch AMOLED panel with an in-display front camera. The selfie camera is completely covered by the display, which keeps the front visually homogeneous.
According to the manufacturer, the panel achieves a brightness of up to 2.000 cd/m² and operates at a 144 Hz refresh rate (LTPS). The 3.000 Hz touch sampling rate is primarily aimed at games that require fast input.
Fixed focal length lenses instead of continuous zoom
As with its predecessor, the Z70 Ultra, Nubia has again opted for fixed focal lengths instead of a continuous optical zoom. The main camera uses a 50 MP sensor, whose image quality is roughly equivalent to a 35 mm lens. This is complemented by a 64 MP telephoto lens (approx. 70 mm, periscope, 2,7x optical zoom) and a 50 MP ultrawide lens (18 mm).
The lack of variable focal lengths is more reminiscent of classic cameras, where the image composition is determined not by continuous zooming, but by positioning and deliberate subject selection. According to Nubia, this should result in more consistent image quality from the main camera.
While the telephoto lens on the Z70 Ultra occasionally focused slowly in practice and exhibited visible noise in low light, nubia promises a revised autofocus and noise optimization in the Z80 Ultra.
enough performance
For the SoC, nubia is using the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which was introduced at the end of September, combined with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. Configurations range up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
For longer gaming sessions, the device adopts the thermal profile from Nubia's Redmagic series, including an enlarged vapor chamber cooling system and software-based measures to stabilize the frame rate.
The battery in the Z80 Ultra has been increased to an impressive 7.200 mAh. Its predecessor had "only" 6.150 mAh. Wired and wireless charging is possible at up to 80 watts.
On the software side, nubia relies on its own MyOS based on Android 16. The manufacturer states 3 years of platform and security updates, which theoretically covers support until November 2028.
