iPhone-level stability
In the durability test, the Phone (3) withstands the usual stresses. The recycled aluminum frame resists bending even under extreme pressure, and the display is protected against scratches by Gorilla Glass 7i and, as expected, only scratches above level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Despite the striking glyph matrix, camera bump, and numerous antenna lines, the device remains surprisingly rigid in the bending test. Nelson explicitly praises the solid build quality and attests that the Phone (3) has an "iPhone-level" of stability, despite a significantly lower entry-level price.
Teardown: Surprisingly modular, but not perfect
A look inside reveals that many components are modular and can be replaced with standard tools. After removing the Gorilla Glass Victus back, which is glued to the casing, a screwed-on plastic cover is revealed. Underneath are:
- an easily removable 5.150 mAh battery with pull-tab
- separately installed cameras (triple camera with 50 MP each)
- USB-C port with water protection ring
- wireless charging coil with unusual "Pac-Man" cutout
- separate boards for speaker, vibration motor and charging port
The glyph button on the back works capacitively through the glass and is connected to the charging port board via a foil cable. The display itself was not replaced in the video.
EU label: repairability only "C"
What's new is that the Nothing Phone (3) now also comes with an EU efficiency label that provides information about energy efficiency, battery life, robustness and repairability, similar to what you know from household appliances.
The smartphone receives an A rating for energy efficiency and robustness, but scores a C for repairability. This is likely due to the bonded back and the elaborately integrated glyph matrix. However, JerryRigEverything positively highlights the fact that many key components are replaceable without special tools.
