Insta360 Luna Ultra launches in Germany: DJI challenger available from €729

While the Luna Ultra is already available in numerous countries worldwide, the launch in Germany seems to be somewhat delayed. The camera can already be ordered in neighboring European countries such as France, Spain, or Italy.

The pricing is likely to be identical in this country. Insta360 currently offers the camera with various accessories, including the Standard Pack for €729 and the Creator Pack including the Insta360 Mic Pro for €929.

The Creator Pack will likely be the more appealing option for many. The included Insta360 Mic Pro We were able to test it a few weeks ago and were quite impressed with the microphone.

While there was recent talk of a complete Luna series with several models, Insta360 initially presented only the Ultra. A more affordable base model was not announced at launch. The launch video can be found here:

1-inch sensor, telephoto camera and 8K

Technically, Insta360's Ultra Luna features equipment that goes significantly beyond what is previously known from classic pocket cameras.

It uses a 1-inch sensor with a Leica Summicron lens, capable of recording videos in up to 8K at 30 frames per second. For slow motion, up to 4K at 120 fps is also available.

For the first time, an additional telephoto camera with a 1/1,3-inch sensor and a focal length equivalent to 60 mm is included. Insta360 promises a zoom of up to 12x, of which up to 6x is lossless.

 Other key features include: 

• 8K30 and 4K120 recordings
• Dolby Vision and 10-bit I-Log
• 14 f-stops Dynamic range
• 3-axis gimbal stabilization
• AI Deep Track with automatic subject tracking
• Triple AI chip for better low-light photography
• Up to 240 minutes of battery life

The detachable 2-inch OLED display on the Luna Ultra not only serves as a monitor, but can also be used as a remote control.

According to Insta360, image transmission is possible from a distance of up to 20 meters. For solo creators or vloggers, this should be significantly more practical in everyday use than the previously common permanently installed displays.

The first blow against DJI

With the Luna Ultra, Insta360 makes no secret of its target audience. The camera directly competes with the upcoming DJI Osmo Pocket 4P and aims to impress primarily with its combination of a 1-inch sensor, an additional telephoto camera, and 8K recording.

Whether DJI can follow suit with the Osmo Pocket 4P, we will probably find out in the next few weeks. What is certain, however, is that Insta360 has kicked off the race for the next generation of pocket cameras.

As soon as the Insta360 Ultra Luna is available in Germany, we will of course try to get our hands on a test device as quickly as possible.
