Larger sensor, higher image quality and AI
The GO Ultra replaces the GO 3S at the top of the Mini lineup. The most important new feature is the larger 1/1,28" sensor, which, according to the manufacturer, offers 221 percent more light area than its predecessor. Combined with a 5 nm AI chip, this should ensure less image noise and more detailed images. The camera records videos in up to 4K at 60 fps. Active HDR and the "PureVideo" low-light mode are available for difficult lighting conditions.
The GO Ultra also improves in photo mode. Images can be captured with up to 50 megapixels and can be exported as DNG RAW in addition to JPG.
A 6-axis gyro ensures stability. In addition to classic video, modes such as FreeFrame, Time-Lapse, TimeShift, loop recording, and slow motion with up to 240 fps at 1080p are available.
The Insta360 app for iOS and Android handles importing and editing clips. Transitions, effects, or music can be added directly, even automatically if desired. Training data from third-party devices or Strava can be displayed, such as speed or heart rate. For families, there's the "AI Family Moments" feature, which automatically sorts recordings into albums.
microSD instead of solid-state storage
One of the biggest changes concerns the storage. Instead of relying on fixed internal memory like the GO 3S, the GO Ultra now uses microSD cards. Cards up to 2 terabytes are supported, and they can be easily swapped during use. The maximum video bitrate is 180 Mbps, and recording is available in either H.264 or H.265.
Compact and hands-free
Weighing just under 53 grams and the size of a smartwatch, the camera remains extremely portable. The case is IPX8 waterproof and can withstand dives up to ten meters deep.
The magnetic base allows for attachment to clothing, backpacks, or metal surfaces. New mounts are also available, including sticky pads, a flexi-loop, and a clip for third-person perspectives.
Included is the Action Pod, which extends the battery life, offers a 2,5-inch touchscreen for previews, and controls the camera via Bluetooth. The GO Ultra alone can record for up to 70 minutes; with the pod, the battery life increases to up to 200 minutes. Thanks to the quick-charge function, the battery can be charged to 80 percent in around twelve minutes.
