Gym Monster 3 and 3S: More flexibility during training
The basic principle remains the same in the Gym Monster 3. Instead of weight plates, electric motors generate resistance at two cable pulleys. The Gym Monster 3 still allows for up to 100 kilograms, while the Gym Monster 3S raises the limit to 120 kilograms. The resistance is adjusted as before in precise 500-gram increments.
Among the new features is the increased flexibility of the cable system. A total of 19 cable positions are available in a 7,5-centimeter grid. This allows for more precise adjustment of the pulling angle to the exercise and the user's height.
Speediance has also improved the design. Reinforced welds and a more robust arm structure are intended to provide greater stability under higher loads. Wall mounting is still not necessary.
The upgrade is much more noticeable in the display. Instead of the predecessor's 21,5-inch screen, a 23,8-inch WQHD display is now used. It is complemented by a 20-watt sound system and lighting that reacts to the workout.
In addition, it features voice control, partner and assist modes, as well as the four existing and expanded resistance levels. With a new Pilates offering including loops, straps, platform extensions, and a mat, Speediance aims to expand its applications beyond traditional strength training.
Despite the changes, the Gym Monster 3 is still designed to require relatively little living space. According to the manufacturer, the system requires approximately 0,84 square meters when unfolded and around 0,26 square meters when folded.
Gym Monster Ultra will be significantly larger
While the Gym Monster 3 is clearly positioned as a home gym, Speediance takes things a step further with the Gym Monster Ultra. According to the manufacturer, this new top-of-the-line model is aimed at ambitious athletes, coaches, and professional training environments, among others.
The most striking feature is the 2,27-meter-high frame with an integrated multi-grip pull-up bar. It also includes a vertical lat pulldown with adjustable thigh support.
In total, the Ultra offers 33 different cable positions. A position directly overhead allows for a straight vertical pull path, while movable lower pulleys are designed to better guide the pull direction during rowing, rotation exercises, or lower body exercises.
The training platform is also significantly larger. At 0,88 square meters, Speediance claims it offers 64 percent more space than the previous generation of Gym Monster. This additional space should be particularly beneficial for squats, lunges, and split-stance exercises.
In terms of resistance, the Ultra is on par with the Gym Monster 3S. Two 1000-watt direct drive motors together provide up to 120 kilograms of digital resistance.
Four resistance modes are available: Standard, Eccentric, Chain, and Fixed Speed. Depending on the mode, the resistance remains constant, increases during the eccentric phase, or is changed depending on the movement or speed.
The AI coach is intended to address a weakness of its predecessor.
I tested the Gym Monster 2 for five months at the beginning of the year. The device impressed above all with its compact design, consistent electronic resistance, and the low barrier to entry for regular training. However, limitations also became apparent. These included the maximum load of approximately 100 kilograms and the lack of true control over exercise execution.
At least with the Ultra model, Speediance seems to be addressing precisely these points. In addition to the extra 20 kilograms of resistance, the manufacturer is announcing a "24/7 AI Coach." This is intended to determine performance levels, adjust training plans, track movements, and provide execution tips.
However, there is a significant catch. According to the product brochure, some of these features are only planned for a later OTA update. Furthermore, the AI functions are tied to the paid Wellness+ membership. Therefore, it's not yet possible to assess how well the shape correction, in particular, works in practice.
Also new or improved are voice control, Bluetooth Ring 3.0, and Smart Handles. The handles allow you to adjust or deactivate resistance directly during an exercise. This should prove quite useful, as the Bluetooth Ring, while almost indispensable on the Gym Monster 2, stood out in testing for its somewhat clunky and occasionally sensitive operation.
The price and exact sales launch date remain unknown. Speediance has not yet released any information on this. The Gym Monster 3/3S and Gym Monster Ultra can be tried out for the first time at the IFA in Berlin in Hall 12, Booth 121.
