IFA 2026: AWOL LuxVision brings 4K at 120 Hz to the UST home cinema

Published by Timo Altmeyer on the 4. September 2026

AWOL Vision is using IFA 2026 in Berlin to premiere its new flagship projector, the LuxVision. The ultra-short-throw projector combines 4K resolution at 120 Hz, up to 6.000 ISO lumens, and optical lens shift. According to the manufacturer, it is the world's first 4K 120 Hz UST projector with optical lens shift.

4K at 120 Hz and 1 ms for gaming

One of the most important new features is 4K output with up to 120 Hz. AWOL promises significantly smoother rendering of fast movements, for example in games, sports broadcasts or action movies.

Technically, the LuxVision uses a 0,47-inch SST-DMD from Texas Instruments and two DLPC8545 display controllers. The MediaTek MT9655 platform with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage is used. In addition to 4K at 120 Hz, the projector also supports playback of content at 24 and 48 frames per second.

Gamers in particular are expected to benefit from an input lag of just 1 millisecond, according to the manufacturer. VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), and Dolby Vision Gaming are also supported.

RGB triple laser with 6.000 ISO lumens

AWOL uses an RGB triple laser system for the light source. The manufacturer specifies a maximum brightness of 6.000 ISO lumens. This should allow the LuxVision to deliver a vibrant image not only in a completely darkened home theater, but also in brighter living rooms.

The color gamut is said to cover 110 percent of Rec.2020. Additionally, the projector supports HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision. IMAX Enhanced, Dynamic Tone Mapping, Filmmaker Mode, and 3D playback are also included.

120 inches from a distance of approximately 19 centimeters

With its projection ratio of 0,18:1, the LuxVision can be positioned very close to the screen. AWOL specifies a distance of only 7,5 inches, or approximately 19 centimeters, for a 120-inch diagonal screen.

According to the manufacturer, image sizes between 80 and 200 inches can be achieved. Maintaining consistent sharpness with such large projection surfaces places particular demands on the optics of a UST system.

AWOL promotes its so-called PixelLock technology for this purpose. It is designed to maintain sharpness, especially at the image edges, and prevent micro-details from visibly losing precision on large screen diagonals.

Optical lens shift is intended to simplify UST setup.

Unusual for an ultra-short-throw projector is the integrated vertical optical lens shift. AWOL specifies an offset range of 142 to 152 percent.

This allows the projected image to be shifted vertically without having to reposition the projector itself or resort to digital image correction. According to the manufacturer, full 4K detail is retained.

The LuxVision also features autofocus, automatic keystone correction, and automatic screen alignment. A motorized lens cover is also included.

EBL is supposed to improve the black level

AWOL also uses a seven-stage dynamic iris and its own EBL technology (“Enhanced Black Level”) in the LuxVision.

The manufacturer specifies a native contrast ratio of 10.000:1 when using the iris. With EBL and dynamic control, contrast ratios of up to 100.000:1 are said to be achievable. EBL is intended to render dark image areas with greater differentiation and preserve more detail in shadows.

Anti-RBE II against the rainbow effect

Another focus is AWOL's second generation of anti-RBE technology. RBE stands for Rainbow Effect, the rainbow effect perceptible with certain projection systems.

According to AWOL, Anti-RBE II combines 4K 120Hz display with an algorithm optimized for different content formats. The technology is designed to reduce visible color artifacts, especially in fast-paced and high-contrast scenes, and to work with both 2D and 3D content.

Three HDMI 2.1 ports, DisplayPort and Multiview

The LuxVision offers a comparatively generous selection of interfaces. It features three HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort, one USB-C port, and one each of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0.

It also features Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Wireless streaming is supported via AirPlay 2, Chromecast, and Miracast.

A picture-in-picture function allows for the simultaneous display of multiple content sources. Furthermore, AWOL advertises a 4-channel HDMI multiview, which allows up to four HDMI video sources to be combined in a single view.

Google TV 16 and AI picture features

AWOL uses Google TV OS 16 as its operating system. This should allow the LuxVision to provide streaming apps without an additional playback device.

In addition, there are several image and sound optimizations marketed as AI features. These include AI Super Resolution, intelligent scene recognition, optimization of dark image details, and a function for improved intelligibility of film dialogue.

Integration into smart home systems is also planned. The specifications mention Google Home, Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Control4, as well as AWOL Vision's own IP control system.

5.1.2 audio system with Dolby Atmos

AWOL has also designed the LuxVision as a largely self-contained entertainment solution. An integrated 5.1.2 audio system supports Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X. An optional subwoofer can be added.

Design with references to the Parthenon

AWOL also attempts to differentiate itself from the typical UST look with the casing. The vertical elements on the front are intended to echo the rhythm of classic columns.

AWOL is also planning various so-called CMF variants, meaning combinations of color, material, and finish. Among other things, design variations with metal, stone, wood, and carbon-like surfaces are possible.

AWOL Vision rebrands

With the IFA premiere of the LuxVision, AWOL Vision is also presenting its brand identity, renewed in June 2026, to a wider audience.

Under the motto "Bring Wonder Home," the company will consolidate its projectors more closely under the AWOL Vision brand. The Valerion series covers classic long-throw projectors, while Aetherion and LuxVision are assigned to the premium segment of ultra-short-throw projectors.

Price and availability

The AWOL LuxVision is expected to be available from October 2026. The recommended retail price is €5.999.
