Dual-Engine ANC: Two drivers for differentiated noise cancellation
New to the FreeBuds Pro 5 is the so-called dual-engine AI noise cancellation. Unlike classic ANC systems, two drivers work here as independent noise cancellation engines.
A linear dual-magnet driver addresses low-frequency, constant background noise, while a microplanar diaphragm driver responds to high-frequency and suddenly occurring disturbances.
The interaction of both units is coordinated by a new MIMO AI sensing model. According to the manufacturer, this analyzes ambient noise up to 400.000 times per second and generates corresponding counter-waves in real time. This is intended to enable adaptive noise cancellation that automatically adjusts to changing environments.
Adaptive sound control and awareness mode
In addition to noise cancellation, the model offers an awareness mode that amplifies ambient sounds. Microphones pick up ambient noise, so important announcements or conversations remain audible without having to remove the headphones.
With adaptive volume control, the playback volume automatically adjusts to the ambient level without the need for manual adjustment.
Dual-drive system with lossless transmission
Technically, the FreeBuds Pro 5 utilize a dual-drive acoustic system in combination with the L2HC 4.0 audio codec. This enables audio transmission at up to 2,3 Mbps and supports lossless playback at 48 kHz and 24 bits.
Separate control of high and low frequencies is intended to ensure precise differentiation in the sound image. Treble, midrange, and bass are processed separately, which should offer advantages, especially with complex musical pieces or high-resolution audio sources.
Four sound profiles are available for individual customization: HUAWEI SOUND Balanced, HUAWEI SOUND Voice, HUAWEI SOUND Classical and HUAWEI SOUND Bass
Optimized voice quality during calls
Three microphones and an additional bone conduction microphone are used for phone calls. The combination of hardware and AI-powered noise filtering is designed to ensure clear voice transmission even in noisy environments.
According to the manufacturer, conversations remain intelligible even with ambient noise levels of up to 100 dB. A special wind noise reduction system is also designed to ensure stable call quality at wind speeds of up to 10 m/s. Even quiet conversations or whispers are said to be transmitted precisely.
Design, materials and protection class
Visually, the model features a so-called star-oval design with a shimmering oval and the HUAWEI SOUND logo. The FreeBuds Pro 5 are available in four colors: sand gold, black, white, and dark blue.
According to the manufacturer, the charging case has been made 5,5 percent more compact and features a newly developed, seamless hinge. The sand gold, white, and black color options are coated with an excimer foil layer, providing a fine microstructure and smooth feel. The blue version is covered in vegan leather and has a 3D-molded surface.
Thanks to their Secure-Fit design, the in-ear headphones are ergonomically designed to adapt to different ear shapes. They also meet IP57 protection standards, meaning they are protected against dust and temporary immersion in water.
Connectivity and audio sharing
The FreeBuds Pro 5 support a dual-device connection. They can be paired with two devices simultaneously, such as a smartphone and a laptop, and automatically switch between audio sources.
Furthermore, the audio sharing function allows you to wirelessly share an audio stream with a second compatible HUAWEI headphone. Individual settings can be configured via the HUAWEI Audio Connect app, which is available for both Android and iOS devices.
Availability and price
The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5 will be available from February 26th in the colors Sand Gold, Black and White in the HUAWEI Online Store, in the HUAWEI Flagship Store Berlin and in stores.
The dark blue version is offered exclusively in the HUAWEI Online Store, the HUAWEI Flagship Store Berlin and on Amazon.
