We have extensively tested the Honor View20.
Bye Notch, hello in-display camera
The Honor View20 takes a slightly different path to the widely represented competition with Notch. Instead of accommodating the selfie camera in a notch or extendable, Honor has integrated the front camera directly into the display. The display itself is of the LTPS type and has an almost borderless diagonal of 6.4 inches with a resolution of 2130 x 1080 pixels. The inconspicuous front camera housed in the display has a proud resolution of 25 megapixels and allows, among other things, secure unlocking via face recognition. The back of the smartphone can also be seen, which is noticeably reflected in the light.
Powerful Kirin 980
The Kirin 980 SoC, which is also installed in Huawei's Mate 20 Series, works under the hood. The SoC, manufactured using the 7nm process, has 10x more transistors than a conventional 1.6nm SoC. The unique three-level architecture divides the SoC into two ultra-fast and two highly efficient Cortex-A76 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores. The Cortex-A76 cores are up to 75 percent more powerful and 58 percent more efficient than their predecessors. The Mali-G46 GPU ensures a graphical performance increase of up to 76 percent with higher efficiency at the same time. The SoC's new dual NPU is responsible for the smartphone's AI tasks. Other hardware features include support for Cat21 LTE, Dual-AC WiFi (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.0.
In order to cope with demanding multitasking, the Honor View20 is equipped with 6GB or 8GB LPDDR4X memory. Apps, films and games can be accommodated on the 128GB or optionally 256GB data storage device. It is not possible to expand the data memory using a memory card.
48 Megapixel main camera
Another highlight of the Honor View20 is the 48 megapixel main camera. The very young (September 2018) Sony IMX 586 with an f / 1.8 aperture was installed. Pixels are effectively combined in order to achieve good-looking images despite 48 megapixels with a sensor size of 8 mm. An additional second sensor enables recordings with a bokeh effect. Further features are high-resolution 4K video recordings at 30 frames per second, SlowMo recordings with up to 960 FPS at 720p and numerous effect functions.
EMUI 9 and 22.5 Watt fast charging
On the software side, the View20 is equipped with the latest Magic UI 2.0 based on Android 9 Pie. A 4000 mAh battery ensures a long runtime. The 22.5 watt quick charge function charges the battery in a very short time. Unfortunately, contactless charging is not planned.

The Honor View20 is now available through the official HiHonor Store. Currently the smartphone is still in pre-sale.
