Blitzstart for Europe

HONOR surprises with the early European launch of the Magic 7 Pro. Instead of presenting the device at the MWC as usual, HONOR wants to get straight to the point and bring the new flagship straight to stores. The timing is hardly a coincidence, as Samsung is also gearing up with its Galaxy S25 series. For tech fans, this means a showdown on the smartphone market.

camera with a lot of AI

The biggest highlight of the Magic 7 Pro is the advanced AI camera, which works with several "big" models. Behind it is a software layer that extracts the appropriate automation for different scenarios so that photos are richer and more detailed.

  •  Light and Shadow Portrait Large Model . This mode produces vivid portraits in which light and shadow highlight the natural contours of the face. In the style of a professional Harcourt photo setting, if desired.
  •  Capture Enhancement Large Model. This AI feature comes into play especially during hectic movements, for example at concerts or when walking the dog in the park. AI Motion Sensing Capture captures moving subjects in sharp individual images and creates entire series of images in seconds thanks to HD Super Burst.
  •  Telephoto Enhancement Large Model. The 200 megapixel telephoto sensor plays the main role here. The AI algorithm optimizes zoom results and reduces blurring, so that distant objects appear clearer.

Anyone who likes to experiment can take full advantage of the full range of features. A 50 megapixel ultra-wide angle is available for landscapes, and a 50 megapixel main sensor with a variable aperture for all-round shots. Another exciting feature is the ability to detect deepfakes during video calls. According to HONOR, this is the first time in the world that it has been integrated into a smartphone and is designed to protect against manipulation.

Snapdragon 8 Elite

The power comes from the new Snapdragon 8 Elite, which has been focused on top performance in the Magic 7 Pro. The processor clocks at up to 4,3 GHz, supported by an Adreno 830 GPU. Mobile gamers in particular should enjoy this setup. HONOR also provides AI real-time rendering, which should keep games running smoothly, even when there are tons of other processes running in the background.

Another clever component is the AI Predictive Scheduling Engine, which recognizes when the system is under particular strain. Processor and GPU performance are then automatically increased or decreased. This ensures consistently high frame rates with low battery consumption.

Battery Crime in Europe

The battery capacity is a major source of controversy. While the Magic 7 Pro comes with a 5850 mAh battery in other regions, European buyers only get 5270 mAh. HONOR does not explain why the battery is smaller here. The reason could be that many retailers in Europe do not want to deal with larger batteries because of stricter logistics and safety regulations.

The bottom line is that the capacity should be sufficient for everyday use, as the device supports 100 W wired and 80 W wireless charging. According to the manufacturer, this ensures that you can reach 33 percent in around 100 minutes. Depending on usage behavior, however, the slightly smaller battery may have an impact on the actual running time.

  • I have no idea what Honor is doing, but other manufacturers like Oneplus are also managing to bring devices with 6000 mAh onto the market. Most recently the Oneplus 13. And even the Magic 7 Lite has 6600 mAh. How does that fit together? To be honest, I don't understand it and for me that is a decisive factor in keeping my Magic 5 Pro for a while longer or switching to another manufacturer.

  • I'm already getting the popcorn out when the new EU rules on removable batteries come into force in 2027. A little less battery power is one thing, but when it becomes mandatory for manufacturers to allow the user to replace the battery, that's when things get really exciting. I don't think the EU will shake up the global market with this. In the end, we as customers will suffer.
