HONOR 400 brings movement into the picture
HONOR is consistently pursuing its AI strategy. The company already relied on intelligent image processing with last year's 200 series. Back then, the Harcourt portrait filters, developed in collaboration with the Parisian photo studio, added a touch of retro glamour to portrait mode.
The HONOR 400 series aims to continue this approach, but with a clear leap toward moving images. The new "AI Image to Video" feature transforms static images—whether selfies, landscape shots, or AI-generated artwork—into approximately five-second video clips.
The clips are created directly on the device in the integrated Gallery app. The underlying technology comes from Google Cloud, presumably from the new Veo 2 model, which was specifically developed for creative video generation.
Initially, usage will be limited to ten video generations per day and will be free for two months. After that, a subscription model will likely follow, although HONOR hasn't yet made any specific statements about it.
No official specs yet, but leaks
While HONOR hasn't officially revealed the specs, leaks already provide a pretty clear idea of what to expect. The 400 series will consist of two models: the HONOR 400 and the HONOR 400 Pro.
The global version is said to feature the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in the standard model and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the Pro model. It will also likely feature a 6,55-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2736 × 1264 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, as well as a 5.300 mAh battery.
There are also hints of decent mid-range specs for the cameras. Both models could be equipped with a 200 MP main sensor. The standard HONOR 400 is said to also feature a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, while the Pro model is rumored to have an additional 50 MP telephoto zoom camera. The front camera is also expected to have a high resolution of 50 MP. However, this has not been officially confirmed.
China version significantly stronger?
Things get really interesting when you look at the Chinese market. According to leaker Digital Chat Station, both models will be equipped with the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, which was introduced just a few days ago. According to Qualcomm, the chip will offer around 27% more CPU performance and 30% more graphics power compared to the third generation.
Another exciting feature is the battery, which is said to be an impressive 7.200 mAh in the Chinese model, while in Germany we are stagnating at around 5.000 mAh.
The story of the different versions isn't an isolated case for HONOR. Previous models were also delivered with varying features depending on the market. Why? Possibly due to supplier contracts, regional pricing strategies, or simply cost management. From the user's perspective, however, it's a bit of a quandary. While in China you get the full technical package, other markets get slimmed-down versions, and this for a device that clearly aims to position itself in the upper mid-range segment.
We'll find out whether the leaks ultimately prove true on May 22nd. That's when the HONOR 400 series will be presented to the international audience.
