Google today unveiled the Pixel Watch 5. The new smartwatch will again be available in two sizes and will feature, among other things, a faster Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 processor, more RAM, a bright Actua 360 display, and improved fitness and health features. Also new are enhanced Gemini features directly on the wrist and Health Guardian functionality.

Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 and 50 percent more RAM

Inside the Pixel Watch 5 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor, used for the first time. Google continues to combine the processor with an energy-efficient dual-chip architecture.

Compared to the Pixel Watch 4, the new model offers 50 percent more RAM and, according to Google, 12 percent more CPU performance. Overall, this should make the new generation around 20 percent faster.

Part of the additional processing power goes directly into AI functions. According to Google, frequently used actions can be processed with on-device AI, which should allow some functions to respond with minimal delay even without an internet connection.

Gemini can still be used without pressing a button.

With the Pixel Watch 4, Google introduced the ability to activate Gemini by raising the wrist. This feature was further improved in the Pixel Watch 5.

Users can raise their wrist to, for example, start a workout, set a timer, or ask Gemini for information. Google also cites retrieving a table reservation from Gmail as an example.

New features also include more context-aware suggestions via Gemini Intelligence. If the watch detects a suitable action, it should be able to offer it directly. A suggestion can be confirmed, among other ways, via a one-handed gesture in which the fingers are brought together twice.

This should allow the watch to be used more frequently without having to operate the display with the second hand.

Live display brings current information to the dial

Also new is a live display that can show situation-dependent information directly on the dial.

Google, for example, mentions a boarding pass that is automatically displayed upon entering an airport. For commuters, the remaining stops can be shown.

The idea is similar to the context-related information that Google is also emphasizing on its Pixel smartphones: information should appear as close as possible to when it is actually needed.

Display with up to 3.000 nits

Visually, Google is sticking with the familiar round design of the Pixel Watch. The Pixel Watch 5 again features a curved Actua 360 display, which is now said to reach a brightness of up to 3.000 nits.

There are also changes to the colors. New options include Fog, Canyon, and Olive. Canyon remains exclusive to the 41mm version. Google is also introducing a new casing finish called Pyrite for the Olive model.

As before, variants with 41 and 45 millimeters are available.

Up to 40 hours of battery life

Google continues to differentiate between the two case sizes in terms of battery life.

The 41mm Pixel Watch 5 is said to last up to 30 hours, while the 45mm version is rated for up to 40 hours. Both models support fast charging.

This means that the focus of the new generation is less on significantly longer battery life than on higher performance and additional features within a usage window that remains roughly one to two days.

Google promises significantly more precise GPS.

The Pixel Watch 5 is said to take a major step forward in location tracking. Google claims it offers its most accurate GPS route tracking for workouts to date.

Accuracy is said to have increased by a factor of two compared to previous Pixel Watch generations. This should result in fewer deviations, especially in cities with tall buildings or on partially covered routes.

To achieve this, Google uses, among other things, 3D building models familiar from Google Maps. According to the manufacturer, the watch takes into account how satellite signals are affected by buildings. Additionally, information from a global network of weather reference stations is incorporated to correct for atmospheric influences on satellite signals.

Based on its own tests, Google even claims that the Pixel Watch 5 outperforms the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Garmin Fenix 8 Pro in route accuracy. Independent tests will have to show how significant the difference actually is under real-world conditions.

New strength training directly on the wrist

Weight training is also becoming more of a focus.

A new strength training experience is designed to guide users step-by-step through training sessions. Sets, rest periods, weights used, and repetitions can be tracked and logged directly on the watch.

However, this feature will not be available until a later date.

The Google Health Coach also allows you to create personalized strength training programs based on your individual goals. Alternatively, you can create your own routines in the Google Health app.

The Health Coach is designed not only to provide training plans but also to take recovery data into account. Google cites sleep, heart rate variability, and external conditions such as heat as possible factors for recommending that a planned high-intensity workout be replaced with a less strenuous activity.

Sleep phases should be identified more accurately.

Google is also revamping its sleep tracking. According to the company, the detection of individual sleep phases should be 15 percent more accurate than before.

New features include bedtime automation. If the watch detects that its wearer has fallen asleep, the playback of an audiobook, for example, can be automatically paused.

In addition, there is a special bedtime clock face and the intelligent alarm clock. This analyzes heart rate and movements during the 30 minutes before the set wake-up time and tries to catch a lighter sleep phase to wake you up.

Health Guardian is designed to detect longer-term changes.

Google dedicates a large part of the presentation to the new Health Guardian features. These cover both acute emergencies and longer-term changes in specific health data.

One of the new features is the detection of respiratory emergencies. The Pixel Watch 5 uses data from the optical heart rate sensor, accelerometer, and barometer, among other things, to perform this function.

According to Google, a local AI model searches for severe and prolonged drops in oxygen saturation.

If the watch detects a situation requiring emergency assistance and the person affected does not respond, the Pixel Watch 5 will automatically be able to place an emergency call and transmit its location. This feature will initially launch in Europe. It is a safety feature and not a substitute for medical diagnosis.

In addition, there are three new monthly trend reports.

The Pixel Watch 5 is designed to detect long-term developments in blood pressure trends, sleep breathing quality, and insulin resistance, or to derive trends from them.

According to Google, the models used are based on large amounts of voluntarily provided sensor data and have been compared with clinical reference procedures. A first detailed summary is expected to be published after about a month of regular use.

It's important to distinguish this from traditional medical measuring devices: Google describes these functions as trend analyses. For example, the watch does not continuously measure blood sugar and does not replace a medical examination for diabetes or high blood pressure.

The monthly summaries are also planned to be extended to other devices from Google's wearable portfolio at a later date.

Familiar security features remain in place.

In addition to the new Health Guardian features, the Pixel Watch 5 also incorporates several familiar functions.

These include pulse loss detection, notifications about an irregular heart rhythm, warnings for particularly high or low heart rate, and the ECG function.

Google also lists satellite communication among the security features of the new watch. However, the specific features available may vary depending on the country and model.

Prices and availability

According to Google, the Pixel Watch 5 can be pre-ordered starting August 12th. It will be available for purchase starting August 20th, 2026.

Google mentions the following prices in the present press release:

  • Pixel Watch 5, 41 mm from 419 euros
  • Pixel Watch 5, 45 mm from 449 euros
