Familiar look, flatter camera bar
Google has essentially remained true to the design language of the previous generation. The characteristic camera strip still extends across the back, but has been redesigned and is now completely covered with glass.
The camera bar is noticeably flatter, especially on the regular Pixel 11. Google states that it has been reduced in thickness by 40 percent compared to its predecessor. Combined with a compatible Google case, this should allow the smartphone to lie flat on a table and no longer wobble.
The Pixel 11 measures 152,8 × 72,0 × 8,6 millimeters and weighs 197 grams. The Pixel 11 Pro measures 152,7 × 71,9 × 8,4 millimeters and weighs 204 grams, while the Pixel 11 Pro XL is significantly larger at 162,7 × 76,5 × 8,5 millimeters and 226 grams.
The Pixel 11 will be available in Frost, Pistachio, Hibiscus, and Obsidian. The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL will be available in Canyon, Olive, Fog, and a matte Obsidian.
Displays become brighter and more scratch-resistant.
The Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro retain a display diagonal of 6,3 inches, while the Pixel 11 Pro XL continues to offer 6,8 inches.
The Pixel 11 uses an OLED Actua display with 1.080 × 2.424 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate between 60 and 120 Hz. Google specifies up to 2.000 nits for HDR content and a peak brightness of 3.000 nits.
Both Pro models use LTPO OLED panels with a refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz. The Pixel 11 Pro has a resolution of 1.280 × 2.856 pixels, while the Pro XL has 1.344 × 2.992 pixels. According to Google, both reach up to 2.400 nits for HDR content and 3.600 nits at peak brightness.
Herein lies one of the more significant differences compared to the Pixel 10 generation. Google claims that the new Super Actua display offers nine percent more brightness than the Pixel 10 Pro. Additionally, the Pro models feature a new anti-scratch protection system, which is said to make the display more than twice as scratch-resistant as its predecessor.
Tensor G6 is primarily intended to accelerate efficiency and AI.
Inside all three smartphones, the new Google Tensor G6 works in conjunction with the Titan M3 security chip. Google promises, among other things, 25 percent faster browsing and 15 percent shorter app launch times. At the same time, the revamped CPU is said to be up to 20 percent more energy efficient.
Google has stated that it has significantly expanded the TPU, which is responsible for AI calculations. It offers 50 percent more computing power and is tailored to the current Gemini Nano model.
Accordingly, Gemini plays an even larger role in the Pixel 11 series. Many AI tasks are designed to be performed directly on the device, faster and with less latency. These include, for example, live translations and new speech-to-text features. Spoken text can be automatically cleaned of filler words like "um" and then converted into a better-formulated text.
Circle to Search can also be used directly via the Pixel camera to search for and translate objects or text in the camera image without having to take a photo beforehand.
Google is once again guaranteeing seven years of operating system, security, and Pixel Drop updates.
256 GB is now standard
Another difference from the previous generation concerns storage. All Pixel 11 models now start at 256 GB. A 128 GB version is no longer available.
The Pixel 11 is available with 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. The Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL offer 12 or 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of internal storage, depending on the storage variant.
While this increases the entry price of individual models, the new generation starts with twice the storage capacity of some variants of the Pixel 10 series.
Pixel 11 gets a significantly upgraded camera
Google is also upping the ante with its cameras. Even the regular Pixel 11 has a triple-camera system consisting of a 48-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 10,8-megapixel telephoto lens.
The main camera uses a 1/1,56-inch sensor and an aperture of f/1.7. Google claims 56 percent higher light sensitivity. The telephoto lens offers 5x optical zoom, while the digital Super Zoom extends up to 30x.
The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL receive the more powerful camera system. The new main camera has a 50-megapixel resolution and uses a 1/1,3-inch sensor. It is complemented by a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera with macro capability and a 5x telephoto lens, also with 48 megapixels.
Google has significantly improved the hardware and sensor, especially in the telephoto lens. The new sensor is said to be 30 percent more light-sensitive. At the same time, the maximum Pro Zoom has increased to 120x. Portrait shots are now also possible with five times magnification.
Also new is instant night vision on both Pro models. Thanks to the Tensor G6, new sensors, and revised software, night shots should be up to 4,5 times faster.
For video recording, Google offers, among other things, a new Creator Suite. It bundles tools for trimming and sorting clips, a teleprompter, and other video recording aids. With video optimization, the Pro models also allow recording in up to 8K resolution.
"Magic Shot" automatically takes photos with
One of the major software innovations is called Magic Capture. Instead of manually taking individual photos, the smartphone can automatically capture images and videos during a single moment.
Google describes the feature as a dedicated camera mode where users don't have to constantly focus on the viewfinder or the perfect moment to take the shot. The Pixel then selects suitable images, crops them, and sharpens them.
Camera Looks also introduce a new way to further stylize photos and videos. Google intends to maintain its Real Tone calibration so that different skin tones are consistently displayed even with heavily edited looks.
HiLight illuminates for Gemini and important calls
Exclusively on the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL, the new HiLight feature is located around the camera flash. Multiple LEDs can illuminate while the smartphone is lying face down on a table.
At startup, HiLight uses different light patterns to indicate whether Gemini is currently listening, processing a request, or responding.
Additionally, favorite contacts can be assigned individual colors. HiLight then lights up accordingly for incoming calls. According to Google, this works with both the Phone app and WhatsApp calls. Further features are planned for later, including notifications for messages from important contacts.
Whether HiLight proves useful in everyday life will likely depend primarily on how much Google expands the function in the future.
More than 30 hours of battery life and faster Pixelsnap
Google states a battery life of more than 30 hours for the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL.
The Pixel 11 has a 4.985 mAh battery, while the smaller Pixel 11 Pro has a 4.850 mAh battery. The Pixel 11 Pro XL has a 5.115 mAh battery.
According to the manufacturer, the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro can reach a charge level of up to 55 percent in about 30 minutes via cable. With a suitable 45-watt power adapter, the Pro XL should be able to reach up to 75 percent.
Google has also improved Pixel Snap. All three models now support Qi 2.2 magnetic wireless charging at up to 25 watts. Compared to the Pixel 10 series, this is a significant improvement, especially for the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro. Google claims up to 25 percent faster wireless charging for the Pixel 11 and up to 29 percent faster for the Pixel 11 Pro.
