Google is launching the Pixel 10a, a new mid-range smartphone that aims to impress with enhanced AI features, a more sustainable design, and a long-term update guarantee. The device will be available in Germany from March 5th starting at €549 and features Google's own Tensor G4 chip, a brighter display, and new photo features with Gemini integration.

Flat design with a focus on sustainability

Visually, Google remains true to its design language, but modernizes the Pixel 10a in details. The back is completely flat, while the characteristic camera bar integrates seamlessly into the casing. This makes the smartphone sit stably on surfaces and gives it a slimmer overall appearance. The Pixel 10a is available in Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian.

Google also places great emphasis on sustainability. The casing is largely made from recycled materials, including recycled aluminum in the frame and plastic on the back. Overall, the smartphone consists of at least 36 percent recycled materials, while the packaging is completely plastic-free.

Google has also improved durability. The Pixel 10a is IP68-rated for water and dust resistance and uses Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, which offers greater resistance to scratches and drops.

Brighter Actua display and longer battery life

The Pixel 10a features a 6,3-inch Actua display with a resolution of 1080 × 2424 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Maximum brightness reaches up to 3000 nits, improving outdoor readability.

Inside, a 5100 mAh battery provides over 30 hours of runtime, according to Google. With Extreme Power Saving mode enabled, up to 120 hours are possible. The smartphone also supports faster wired charging and wireless charging up to 10 watts.

Google promises seven years of operating system updates, security updates, and new Pixel features. This makes the Pixel 10a one of the smartphones with the longest software support in its class.

Tensor G4 brings Gemini and new AI features

The Pixel 10a is powered by the Google Tensor G4, combined with 8 GB of RAM and either 128 or 256 GB of storage. The chip enables full access to Google's AI ecosystem around Gemini.

Key AI features include:

  • Gemini as an integrated AI assistant
  • Gemini Live for natural language conversations
  • Circle to Search for quick search directly on the screen
  • Nano Banana for creative image editing and reinterpretation
  • Live Translate for real-time translations

These features are intended to differentiate the Pixel 10a more from classic mid-range smartphones and to perform many tasks directly on the device.

Pixel-style camera with new AI tools

Google continues to rely on a dual-camera system with a 48 MP main camera and a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The setup is complemented by familiar Pixel features such as Night Sight, macro focus, and Super Res Zoom.

New to the A-series are several AI-powered photo features:

  • Automatic best shot for perfect group photos
  • Camera coach with step-by-step tips for better photos
  • “Add me” to automatically insert photographers into the group photo
  • AI-powered image editing via text or speech

These features are used by Gemini models to automatically optimize or creatively modify photos.

Satellite emergency call and improved safety

For the first time, a Pixel A model also supports satellite emergency calling. This allows help to be contacted in an emergency, even when no cellular or Wi-Fi connection is available. Additional features such as spam filters, VPN by Google, and integrated security chips provide enhanced protection.
