A few weeks after the release of the DJI Pocket 2, FIMI follows suit and presents the FIMI Palm 2. At first glance, a lot has changed, especially in the design. The case has been redesigned and is no longer reminiscent of its predecessor or the expensive DJI brand competition. With rounded corners and a rubberized surface, FIMI promises a more pleasant feel. In terms of size (132.5 x 35.5 x 32.5 mm) and weight (145g), the FIMI Palm 2 is slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor.
The FIMI Palm 2 can be operated with just one hand. An LED touch display shows a picture preview and provides information on the camera settings. Underneath is a 4-way joystick, which can be used to control the 3-axis gimbal. The selfie button, which enables a quick 180 ° pan, is new. The camera system can be attached to a tripod using a 1/4 inch thread on the flat underside. In the upper part of the rear of the case there is an external 3.5mm microphone connection.
New image sensor
According to FIMI, the new 12MP Sony CMOS (1 / 2.6 inch) with f / 2.4 aperture should have a particularly large dynamic range and cope even with difficult lighting situations. Thanks to the wide-angle lens with a short 14mm focal length, the FIMI Palm 2 captures a 128 ° image section. How the smaller sensor of the FIMI Palm 2 fares in terms of video quality compared to its predecessor will be shown in the test.
Videos are saved in maximum 4K30 resolution and in MP4 format as well as optionally H.264 / H.265 (HEVC) encoding. At a reduced 1080p resolution, video recordings with up to 90 frames per second are possible. The bit rate is up to 100 Mbps, depending on the resolution and coding. The handheld camera can be connected to the smartphone via WiFi (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz) for data transfer and advanced control.
There are also special recording modes. These include panorama shots, motion lapse, timelapse, hyperlapse and slow motion. Digital zooming is possible with up to 3x magnification. Ready-made story modes help with video editing. A noise-reducing microphone prevents unwanted background noises from being picked up.
3-axis stabilization and battery
The stabilization capabilities of the FIMI Palm 2 have also been revised, according to FIMI. In particular, the stabilization algorithm works even more precisely when compensating for the smallest wobble. Smart Tracking makes it easier to track people and objects in real time. Once aligned, the FIMI Palm 2 remains on the targeted target even while moving.
Thanks to the ample 2600 mAh battery, you can film up to 300 minutes at a time with just one charge. The running time varies depending on the resolution and recording modes.

Price and availability
The FIMI Palm 2 handheld camera is currently still on pre-sale. The dispatch should take place from the end of December.

Hello Timo,
In order to get photos from my Fimi Palm 2 onto my tablet, I connected both devices together and both crashed immediately. Since then, the Fimi won't turn on (possibly due to a short circuit). The battery is probably defective.
Can you tell me who can replace the battery or do a repair?
I would be very grateful for a message from you.
